There was a thread addressing having an existing a valid permit from another state and either an abridged form or something similar regarding making the transition to getting the AZ permit less time consuming.  Basically avoiding having to get the fingerprints and all the BS again.  They just had to rerun your background obviously with the credentials from your current valid permit and the application for AZ.  Sound familiar to anyone?  I didn't see a reference to it on the site but recall seeing a thread a couple months ago and can't find it in search.  I think it was handled almost like renewal if I am not mistaken.

No idea on the specifics, but here's what I found on their FAQ site.

I am moving to Arizona. Is my concealed weapon permit from my former state of residence transferable?
No, however you may be able to use it as proof of firearms competence when applying for an Arizona permit. Contact the permit unit for additional information.

Correct me if I am wrong but Arizona I thought was a constitutional carry state and a permit was not required, but it is often suggested to get it for reciprocity in neighboring states ?

This is true. But having a permit helps when purchasing firearms.

To get an AZ permit with an out of state permit, you submit your fingerprints, copy of out of state permit, and of course, the ever present Government Fee.

AZ does not care where you live (there are no "resident" or "non-resident" permits) so you can get one without moving here.

Having a permit has more advantages than just ordering a new gun.  Without a permit all you can do is carry a gun where you could have done open carry before.  You cannot carry in a bar or restaurant.  Licenses put LEO's at ease, they know you have been through a background check and are one of the bonafied good guys. A CCW permit allows carry with 1000 yards of a school, without one you must have the gun hidden and unloaded.  Rizzo, I'm certain can add to this.

Also, another benefit, is being able to CCW in other states that recognize AZ CCW.

I see some places in Gilbert with that stupid no gun sign so what's the point?  Or am I missing something.
