Hey guys, can you please confirm its OK to carry in a bar in Indiana? I looked it up on usacarry.com and it says Im good to go but wanted to confirm here. FYI, I dont plan on drinking but was interested to see that its not forbidden like it is here in Ohio. Thanks in advance. |

It is not a restricted place here but you have a problem. You have to follow the laws of the State that issued our license as well even though you are here. Many officers do not know that. Here it is: b) Licenses to carry handguns, issued by other states or foreign countries, will be recognized according to the terms thereof but only while the holders are not residents of Indiana. As added by P.L.311-1983, SEC.32. (it has been ruled that the interpretation I stated is correct) |

yes you can carry in a bar, as long as its not against the 'bars" rules, ie bww, hooters, and show me's have signs posted on the front door, no weapons allowed, so you cannot carry there, but the signs carry no weight of law, so if you are caught, all they will do, is ask you to leave, and you could be "trespassed", ie don't come back, if you do you will be charged with trespassing
NOW LISTEN CLOSELY!!!!! CASINO BARS ARE EXEMPT!!!!! NO CARRY PER INDIANA LAW!!!!!!! |

so you're saying, that an Indiana officer has to enforce ohio laws, so that means if he's pulled over, while he's carrying a gun, he has to inform that he's carrying a gun, while the Indiana resident in the car with doesn't?
so I guess that if he gets caught carrying, in a bar the office will arrest him and take him to jail!...in ohio! I think you're interpreting the law wrong. |

No he'll most likely be arrested for unlawfully carrying a handgun without a permit since it's not a valid license if you're not obeying the laws of your home state. |

Police don't even know the gun laws of our state, let alone enforce another states laws .

CASINO BARS ARE EXEMPT!!!!! NO CARRY PER INDIANA LAW!!!!!!! There has been a great deal on legal consternation over the "according to the terms thereof" phrase. It is ambiguous and there is no court precedent to tell us what it really means. Many feel it means "the laws of the state of issue", some feel it means "the terms of the license itself" IE, if the license says concealed carry license on it then the carrier must carry concealed. Until the time that legal precedent is set the "safest" thing to do is follow the laws of your state and Indiana, but IMHO I don't think it would be unreasonable to find a happy medium. IE, signs carry the weight of law in OH, I wouldn't worry about signs in IN. Carry in a bar in OH is illegal, carry in a bar (even while drinking) is legal in Indiana, i think it would be reasonable to carry in a bar but no drinking and only if you can be peaceful. |

Unless I'm reading this wrong, It looks like you can carry in a bar in Ohio as long as you are not consuming or under the influence, Bottom of page 10 I believe. |
