Well I finally was able to get signed up for my CHL Class at Hotwells this Sat, I want to go thru this and then the wait begins, I was told that DPS does not allow reloads for the test ? so I will have to buy ammo

IIRC, there is nothing about reloaded ammo.

I know of a couple of CHL instructors that do not allow reloads for qualification.  I don't know if it was range policy or the instructors.

This is the reply I got:

Hi
Ok you are all signed up, we will see you at Spring Cypress Barbque at 25831 Northwest Freeway, in front of the Target in Cypress right off 290. DPS does not allow reloads to be used for the shooting test, you will need 50 rounds. Let us know if you have anymore questions.
Thanks

I would follow the instructions.  It will take four or five months to probably get your license anyway, why slow it down?

The reply is BS.
DPS does not care.
How are they going to know if you don't say anything.
Me.  I would throw down the green for a box of win white box or other good range ammo.
But if you want to shoot and trust your reloads to run 100% go for it.

When I went for my CHL class (Feb of this year), the reload rule was a RO preference.

so just use NEW brass, that IS NOT a reload.

eta: agree there is no rule on reloads per DPS

That's crap about the reloads.

But really, is it worth arguing over?  Just go get yourself some WWB and be done with it.

Thanks!

That is something I did not know.  I usually have a case or two of 9mm Blazer around and that's what I've always used at places where I know I cannot recover my brass.

They have ammo available at the range to purchase also I currently have a IN lifetime carry permit or does that matter for testing

Took my CHL Class today and although it was long I found it very interesting the Instructor however did not know if I could use my Indiana Lifetime permit to carry till I received my Texas permit in about 6 months he advised me to contact DPS directly he did say Texas honors the Indiana permit but did not know if I could carry with the permit saying my old Indiana  address and my drivers license with a Texas address and Indiana will not change my Indiana permit to a Texas address, I may just have to wait to carry

It is real simple.  Our recipricity agreements don't have any terms in them about addresses.  If your permit is VALID you can carry here on it.

My permit is valid without issue

Well I checked with DPS here in Texas and also the State Police in Indiana and Indiana said once I leave the state and have my license changed to another address my permit is invalid Texas DPS said it's a grey area and it depends on the Officers mood as to whether I am in violation or not ? so I think I am just going to wait to carry

You seem to have exhausted your supply of punctuation.  Fortunately I've stockpiled an enormous amount of it in anticipation of possible shortages, and am willing to share with my fellow posters.  Hopefully this will tide you over until you are able to secure replacement stock:
