| How long does to paperwork take to get to your house after you do the online application? Then how long after that does it take for it to go through? |

Quoted:
Actually current reports are that issue times are now pretty quick. I think a member here got a license issued in less than 2 months. I have heard others recently of less than 5 weeks. Thats good news. I guess when I think of it once they actually got my paperwork it didn't take too long, it was just getting my paperwork that took a while and the fact I never recieved a renewal packet in the first place. |

Quoted: That's good, as long as I have it before summer. Since I'm a freshman I have to live on campus so I can't keep my Glock here. Depending which University you are attending, you can check your firearm at the on-campus PD station. I know Baylor, A&M, and Tech do it. I've heard most other TX Colleges do as well. |

They said "you aren't allowed to own a handgun if you're under 21" to which I replied "you can if you purchase it in a private sale". The SMU cops aren't the friendliest bunch in the world. And I dont' have my CHL yet, just hope to soon. |

I can't check my pistol since I'm under 21. This may be an ignorant question, but can you get a CHL before you're 21? ![]() Only if he is military Correct Just repeating what my CHL instructor told me: "You have to be able to purchase a handgun from a FFL in order to obtain a CHL, thus even if you're in the military you can't get one" -CHL Guy (Direct quote) For all I know you can have one, that's just what I was told |

"An applicant must be 21 years of age to submit an application for a Texas Concealed Handgun License OR must be at least 18 years of age if the applicant: is a member or veteran of the United States armed forces, including a member or veteran of the reserves or national guard; was discharged under honorable conditions, if discharged from the United States armed forces, reserves, or national guard. | Ok now this might sound like a dumb question, but how would you go about asking if there is a place you check it in at? I suppose it's entirely up to the campus police? I'm most def. interested in that, but don't want to draw attention to myself as in the campus police knowing I have a weapon in my truck. |
| Just tell campus police that you are going quail hunting or something and are going to have a shotgun for the weekend and are wondering where you need to take it to have it secured until you leave. That way they won't suspect a handgun and then you will know what they expect. |

Nothing wrong with having a firearm in your truck....Mine gets locked up in my truck every morning.. |

Now school policy may say no, but the Texas PC says it's just fine... |

| Oh i know its not technically against any laws but the school might see otherwise. And I don't want to be suspended because some campus officer knows I have one in my truck. But def a diff situation if they have a place on campus that I can store it in while in class. |

Now school policy may say no, but the Texas PC says it's just fine... Kick ass, link? Does it apply to private universities? Section 46.05(a):
(1) on the physical premises of a school or educational institution, any grounds or building on which an activity sponsored by a school or educational institution is being conducted, or a passenger transportation vehicle of a school or educational institution, whether the school or educational institution is public or private, unless pursuant to written regulations or written authorization of the institution; 46.035 (f)(3) "Premises" means a building or a portion of a building. The term does not include any public or private driveway, street, sidewalk or walkway, parking lot, parking garage, or other parking area.
...in lay man's terms, you can carry your pistol pretty much anywhere on campus except into a building... eta- forgot this important part: (h) It is a defense to prosecution under Subsection (a) that the actor, at the time of the commission of the offense, displayed the handgun under circumstances in which the actor would have been justified in the use of deadly force under Chapter 9
...so if something does happen, and you have to use your firearm in self defense, so long as the use of force was justified, you have a defense to prosecution.. |

Like I said, it is not against any law, but school policy usually prohibits it....course, if you have locked in a lock box in your vehicle, they will never know so...I know that I will not be able to get to my pistol if something happens on campus, but I am unwilling to drive to and from school every day (and to my stops in between) without my handgun, so it gets locked in my truck.. |
