Is it legal to have a handgun in your car in the parking lot of a school in TX?  I have to go to a meeting at an elementary school next week and would like to know.

The CHL statute reads that guns are banned on the physical premises of a school.  The statute later says that the premesis are not a parking lot, but it does not address the term "physical premesis."

You found the answer.  Premises means a building or portion of a building.  The definition also tells your specifically that the term does not include parking lots.

You are good to go

The parking lot used to be off limits in the "bad old days".
