Regarding renewels; my CHL expires this month, I won't be back to renew it in time.  Now I understand that I have 12 months following my expiration date to renew without having to take the whole initial training class.  But is this 12 month period an automatic allowance or do I have to request it?

Thanks

You automatically get 12 months from the time it expires to renew. If it goes past the 12 months then you have to take the full 10 hour class and apply for a new license.

Yep.  And remember, no carry during the expiration.
