i heard you have to be a member or LEO to shoot at that range.  i'd like to shoot at 500..but i can probably find some clear cuts and shoot for free.

The topic was CMP programs, and that is what the focus of the club is
X-C shooting!  Well, clubs have costs.  Like insurance and taxes on the property.  So there are no free lunches.  Most clubs are pretty reasonable with respect to membership dues.  8 hours of work in lieu of payment in cash at one club I belong to.  Another club has the work requirement.  And, a person gets the same deal.  So memberships are not tha expensive.  But, then most clubs do not have liberal range use policies.  So there is a compromise.  High power shooting is a good sport!  It seperates the men from the boys!  No scopes!  Just iron sights!

If you are looking to join a club in order to buy a CMP rifle, I've read on these boards that you only need to be an NRA member or have a valid hunting license.  Sorry that I can't back that up with a substantial link.  Maybe you can check on the CMP website.

If you live in the east metro, the Oakdale Gun Club (actually in Lake Elmo) is CMP-affiliated. Costs a bundle to get in, but those free Garands/free range use make up for it I'm sure (still trying to get in)...

Being a NRA member does not quailify you to purchase from the CMP
