I moved here from FL which has reciprocity with SC. I had/have a FL CWP. Does this help in any way with getting an SC permit?

I moved here from NC with my CWP and it made no difference to SC. You have to start from scratch. The minute you change your residency the FL permit is also invalid so don't get caught carrying with it.

I was in the same boat, my FL CWL is actually due for renewal this year. When you become a SC citizen it's invalid in state though it should be valid in when you're visiting GA, NC, etc (but you should check anyway). So, you've got to suck it up and start over for SC.

Oh well. Thanks for the info. I didn't think the FL CWP was any good once I changed residency so it got put away first thing.

Actually it won't even be valid in GA/NC. His FL would have to be a non-resident to be valid. I talked to a couple NC sheriff offices about that since I go up there alot before I got my SC permit. Was hoping that they would accept it, but was told a resident permit had to match my Drivers license. Even though they had issued the original I was no longer a resident and would be treated as if I was carrying an expired permit.

That's odd, I was pretty sure NC would accept most state's non-resident CWLs. The only specific state they require residency for is NH according to their website here

But as always, I am not an attorney

The issue there is he has a resident permit but is not a resident.

For example, VA offers non-resident permits. NC will accept that. Matter of fact, there was a big news story on Raleigh TV in the last couple weeks about the "loophole" where an NC resident could get a VA non-resident permit and skip the 8-hour mandatory training for an NC permit. (The non-resident permit can be used to carry in NC, but not as a substitute for a purchase permit). However, you couldn't get a VA permit as a VA resident, then move to NC and keep using it.

Evidently NH issues more than just resident permits, but NC won't recognize the others.
