Has anyone been over to buy rifles from here lately? I was wondering if what they show online as far as stock is accurate or are there rifles at Perry? Can you still go in and pick up a M1 Carbine or are they only selling in auctions as stated on the website? I was hoping for a Garand but didn't want to drive all the way out there for junk. Field grade would be ok as long as the barrels were too worn out. If anyone has been there lately, please let me know what I'm in for.
Thanks

The carbines are gone, except for auctions. The recent Garands are in very nice shape, most have new birch stocks on them. I know a couple of people that purchased them in the last couple of months, and I'm thinking of grabbing another due to the nice condition.
Forgot to add, they were all Service grades. I haven't seen a field grade. |

at least it is better to go to the north store to pick out your own rifle than get a luck of the draw gun shipped. If you want to pick out the best gun out of a rack, the trip to cmp north is worth it. they do from time to time have small numbers of rifles not advertised on the website.
yes carbines have been out for a couple years already except for a uction material. They have a new shipment of various bolt actions for sale now-limited numbers. go to the cmp forums (under communications on the cmp website) there is usually a report for the north store from a recent visitor describing inventory. the key to this is knowing what you want and how to examine the rifles(correctness of parts muzzle/throat erosion etc) sometimes you can find a better than rack grade rifle mixed in the same rack -meaning the grading doesn't always equal the rifle quality. this is most often when a gun looks rough on the outside but is near new on the inside- making for an ugly but effective shooter. |

well the CMP North is fed by the Anniston store:
I was in the South Store today; no carbines, lots of Kraigs, only a few 1903's (drill rifles as were the 1917's) Howeven they did have a marvelous selection of .22's as well as Garands! They had C's, D's, rebuilds, rack & service. Best deal on 30'06 is the cans of HXP linked on belts: 250 rounds for $90. and it's clean, in WWII style cans. Too bad it was "Limit one item per NLU number" that's ok, OK bought 'one of each' |
