Going camping on an island on the missisippi(in the middle of the river) across from Burlington. Was thinking of taking my 1911 and mossy 500. What are the legalities of this. Am I under IA or IL law there? Would not be CCW but out in the open.
Better find out which state you will be in, and I know, from coworkers that fish out there, that boaters will stop to camp on the islands and fish from the banks after dark. Also, there was an incident were Burl. PD found a man murdered on one of the islands. Call the Des Moines Co. Sheriffs Dept and ask if they know which state you will be in. Do you know the name of the island? Also, IL DNR patrol pretty heavy on their waters trying to catch non licensced Iowa residents fishing.
Eh I have decided to abort the firearms. I called my friend in Burlington who's father is a retired deputy for Des Moines county and got the father on the line. He said all around bad idea since the distinction of IL and IA are fuzzy at times with the islands although mostly patrolled by IA DNR and Des Moines County sheriff. Legaly I could have the mossy out but depending on who saw it could be more trouble than it is worth.
