| Anyone have suggestion on a place to camp. Would also like to do some rafting/canoeing/biking trails. I don't remeber the name, but we went to a camp ground near the Delaware river a few years ago, it was okay, a little crowded. |
Cool, I'll check it out. ETA; I guess it's privately owned. From Dingmans Ferry campground; 1) General: • Alcoholic beverages are prohibited. • Quiet hours are from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM. Quiet hours are strictly enforced. • Gasoline generators are prohibited. • The use of fireworks is prohibited. • Chainsaws and axes are prohibited. • The discharge or display of firearms is prohibited. All firearms must be properly cased and safely stored in your vehicle while on campground property. • Trespassing on other campsites is prohibited. Respect the privacy of others. • Keep valuables locked in your vehicle. Dingmans Campground will not be held responsible for lost or stolen property. • Follow the instructions and direction of the campground staff and National Park Service representatives. • Please supervise your children and guests. I just went camping at Kittatinny. Second year going there and am already looking forward to next time going. Doesn't seem to be a problem with alcohol there either. Link to Kittatinny |
THATS the one we went to a few years ago and found it a bit crowded. Maybe it was just bad timing, other then that it was nice. We did raft the river but it was running REAL slow, we paddled most of the way. This time we are going with another couple, they are suggesting some place in Orange county, he said it's only thirty minutes from NYC . I said, why don't we just "camp" in Central Park" . Anywho, we ARE going to Kittatinney |
| Last year I went to Catskill Mountain Kampground. People brought their own food, booze and the likes. It's right by the river. A few years ago it was flooded bad. There's still debris on the shores if you kayak downstream. It has electric but the showers and bathrooms are nasty. |
I worked at Kittatinny and Indian head here and there within the past few years, how crowded it is usually depends on weekday vs weekend (I suggest week day) and holiday weekends it's just a ton of people. I know there is a "primitive" campsite on the PA side of the river on some of the state game lands, above Port Jervis by a few miles, just below the staircase rapids. I think it's by permit or something, I saw it on a PA state website somewhere a while ago, I plan on making a stop there to check it out on my next canoe trip in a week or two and see what hte details are. It is only accessible by boat too I think. River as of today and for the past week has been relatively low, not like the past few years. Rocks are out, it's not the lowest it has been but it won't be the fastest trip in the world. There are releases from the resevoirs later in the afternoon I think, and it does rise about 6" around 3-4 PM usuually. |

If I recall, most, if not all, of the PA Gap area campgrounds have a posted no booze policy. From what I can remember, if you are not a complete raucous ass and do not offend anyone by being obnoxiously drunk, you can drink...just keep it on the down low and no one will care. Kind of like "don't ask, don't tell" |
As we were entering the Delaware river for a rafting trip, they checked our cooler and said their was a six pack of beer limit, which is exactly what we had |
We are aiming for a midweek trip to avoid crowds. |

On a side note, last time we were at Kittinnanny(whatever |
