Well due to the impending doom our country is heading towards..... J.k.

Nah, I live in Massachusetts, I want to get a rifle of some sort, i'm thinking a Mosin Nagant. Whats the deal with all the restrictions they have around here? I've read so much stuff online that conflicts one another, I think my head is going to explode ..... So far what i've conjured, is that you need to apply for a Firearms ID to own a rifle or a gun in MA?, is that not true? Do I have to pay for this ID?, how long does it take to issue? Also, do i need a seperate licence to own or puchase ammo? & whats the deal with not being able to buy AR's & AK's from out of state? Wow i'm so confused....

If anyone could offer me some info that'd be awesome, Thanks!

Welcome to ARfcom!

Yes in MA you MUST have a license in order to merely possess a spent .22LR case or an empty hi-cap mag or you can go to jail for up to 10 years! Ditto with guns/mags or any ammo components.

Process includes taking a MA State Police approved course (est. $100) where some of the info you seek will be taught, filling out an application and submitting it to your local police department with another $100 and waiting 1-2 months on average. Only then can you legally purchase or possess any guns/ammo. What you can possess is determined by the type of license you obtain. If you have any prior arrests/convictions/restraining orders in your history you may find yourself disqualified for a firearms license.

There is an entire forum dedicated to answering the questions you asked on http://www.northeastshooters.com, check the MA Gun Laws sub-forum and start by reading all the "stickies" there.

Yes you can buy/own an AR or AK, it just must be either pre-ban (pre 9/13/1994 mfd) or w/o the "evil features" as defined in the former Fed AWB . . . which is permanently ensconced in MGLs. Same applies to hi-cap mags . . . if they were made pre 9/13/1994 you are good to go, if any hi-caps were made after that date, possession is a 10 year felony unless you are LE.

That's the brief run-down, the entire story takes a forum of its own!
