im not to sure for someone moving here, but i know for the application you need 2 references and they both have to be from your county and know you for at least a year. im on my second permit and none of my references have ever been contacted. dont know if they run checks or anything though.

Beware.... at my last renewal they did contact my two references.  I've had a permit since 1982.

I don't know if there is a time requirement, I would think once you have established a residency, you are good to go.

Also, as far as references, State law dictates that the application for a license to carry must be uniform throughout the state and follow the example set by PA State Police. There is no requirement that your references must be from your county, or even PA. But....many sheriffs like to add there own (illegal) requirements.

+1. I've been through the application process for myself and my girlfriend, and in two different counties. Neither said anything about the references having to be from anywhere. As far as calling them, that can go either way. Mine were called, my girlfriend's were not.

Oh, and my girlfriend was from MD, and had her PA license about a day when she applied for her CCW. She walked out of the courthouse with her CCW about 15 minutes later. So no, no time limit.

I applied for mine after I was here for 3 months.  They did not contact my references.  It took them about 35 days to get it too me.  I am very glad I have it now.

That stuff depends on the county you live in.

I moved to Butler from Illinois, and got the LTCF after I'd been here a few weeks and used references from Illinois and South Carolina.

Some want local references, some don't care.

Just curious on a side note, what made you move to Butler? What do you do?

I live in Butler, work in Beaver at the nuke plant.

Cranberry was conveniently located for my job and for my girlfriend to get into Pittsburgh.  I've got a decent drive every day, but it's better than the commute was when I was in Chicago.
