How do YOU do it? |
|
Look at the Fuel Belt Distance Runner or the Speed Runner. I have the larger of the two, I think it is the Distance runner and I used it for a marathon. All I carried was a few gels and my ID and stuff but it worked great. I know it fits my P32 and I THINK my Airweight fits. These are not your average “fanny pack”. The difference is all in the details. These are VERY slim and fit very close to your body. This is really important otherwise it will flop all around and be a huge problem. The point is to get any weight to be pulled in CLOSE to your body. If you are serious about running you are going to have to be very conservative about your carry gun. Think P32,P380, PM9 maybe Airweight. I know the Airweight works when biking because the bouncing isn’t as big a deal. But when running I will use P32 or honestly often a LARGE spyderco clipped into my shorts.
I try to pick my running routs carefully to be somewhat safer than my biking. I am usually just running for exercise. So it just needs to have the right hills and distance. My biking I am usually trying to get from point A to B so I cant control what “hood” I go through as much. You would think on a bike it would be safer because you are moving fast. But when you get a flat at 5AM in the West End you realize that it isn’t so. Point is, running = Spyderco, P32 or Airweight, Biking=P9 or G19 and Spyderco. PS i know i will get some crap about how light i am going in the CCW when i run. But that is just what i feel i need. |

how 'bout while on a bike:
So the fitness and nutrition bug bit me pretty hard about 5 weeks ago, and I have been trying to eat better (which, with the info out there is very confusing, btw) and get some exercise in. I'm not a big guy (6'/165) but I ride a desk for a job, and my cardio was pretty bad. When I started, I could only run about 0.5 mile before I was totally winded. That has gotten a lot better, but I have found that I like the bike even more. I have a heavy old cannondale MTB that i have been putting 12-13 miles on a night, and it is going pretty good. Haven't really lost any weight, but it is definitely being redistributed. Belt is two notches tighter so far. Tonight while riding, I had someone almost run over me. I was riding with traffic, he was in the opposite lane, coming towards me. As we got closer to one another, he veered across the centerline and came within 3-4 feet of me. I don't know if he was simply not paying attention, or if it was intentional, but without thinking, i flipped him off. He had to see it, it was right in front of his windshield. He had to see me earlier too, as it was not particularly dark at the time. Anyway he went on down the road, and i finished my last couple of miles. Sure got me to thinking about carrying on the bike though. If he'd have turned around and come back to start a fuss, I'd have been in trouble. Road was fairly secluded, I was gassed, and the only thing I had on me was my cell phone and my Kershaw Leek. Anyway, I guess I am looking for recommendations or suggestions on who carries what, and how they do it. FWIW, my everyday carry is a G19, but i am thinking a hammerless J frame would be more appropriate for something like this. What kind of holster? Where do you carry? On you, or on the bike? I usually just wear cargo shorts and a T-shirt while carrying. Open carry is legal in GA, so it doesn't matter if it shows or I print. Thanks, -matt (cross posted from GD) |

Its not "instantly" accessible like wearing it on my waist, but its out of the way while riding and still within a few seconds grasp. |

Updating with another option I found. A bit more conspicuous but worth noting. |

Just a folder clipped on the inside of my shorts waistband, usually Honestly, that is how I've been running lately. In fact, that is what I did this AM. The wife and I run typically very early in the AM or late at night and stay in and around the neighborhood. We're more concerned with loose dogs than spooky two-legged zombies. Thus, I've scaled everything down to a Spyderco folder. Now if you see me walking the dogs I'll be packing a G19 or 1911. Mark |

Quoted: I have a pistol wear PT-2 that I use when running or while carrying in shorts that don't have belt loops. Well they have some pretty interesting options I've never seen. |

Quoted: i'd forgotten about this thread. to update my biking post, i've upgraded my hardware a little bit. http://picturearchive.auctionarms.com/5648180059/8923005/12226-1.gif_thumbnail1.jpg picked up a very nice 340pd on OT for a song. it is so light, the G19 is a pig in comparison. carrying it IWB in a little suede galco holster. How does that kick on the airlite frame? I remember when I was 16 and shot a .38 spl on airlite frame and I kinda swore it off.
