I've recently started visiting Savannah 2-3 times a year for leisure. I'll be there next week and I've made up my mind to take my Glock 19 with me since I have a Texas CHL. And Texas and Georgia have carry reciprocity. Just wondering if there's anything really important I should know about GA carrying laws. Are there posting/signage that I need to look out for? In Texas, we have "30.06" signs (someone in the legislature has a sick sense of humor). If a place of business posts a sign that meets the legal standards of 30.06, you cannot legally carry in that place. I normally don't drink when I have my piece with me, but I have had 1 beer before, and  Texas allows you to carry as long as you're not intoxicated. What is GA's stance on this? Thanks fellas!

I swear my sentence structure and punctuation is usually better than this. Had a long day yesterday

signs have no legal weight.

pretty much OC or CC is fine everywhere except places of worship and buildings that have government offices.  also no bars, but restraunts that sell alcohol are also ok.  if you are "caught" carrying at a place where the owner doesn't want you there then you have to leave or be charged with criminal trespass.

Thanks! So if I'm reading that correctly, it's OK to have a drink while carrying. Just as long as you're not under enough alcohol impairment that you lack the ability to safely discharge your weapon if need be?

And if I'm also reading correctly, it's cool for me to carry my CRKT Lake Laredo knife w/ a ~4.25" blade.

When in Savannah you need to hit Bobo's, get the low country boil, tell them to hold the crabs, and make it up with shrimp. Good stuff, and it is more than you can eat for under $7. It ain't in the best neighborhood, and it is seafood market so it is take out only.

Carrying a 5"+ knife in Texas will likely get a citation+possible confiscation of your pretty knife.  I was unaware of this law until I was about 19 and the local shooting range staff told me to take my boot knife off before a cop stopped me

Sweet. I'll try to check it out. I know it's a chain restaurant, but I really dig Bonefish Grill. We don't have any in Texas, and the bang bang shrimp is out of this world. I found a copycat recipe online. It's damn close and very tasty, but just isn't the same

Savannah as a whole has some pretty darn good food. I live in Houston. There's a lot of restaurants, but they're so alike and their menu's are quite boring and unimaginative.

There is nothing in the law prohibiting intoxication while carrying. Only discharging the fireamr while intoxicated, but there's an exception for self defense.

dunno, I am not a drinker so I can't help there.

as far as the knife you are correct, from how I understand it,  anything LARGER than 4" is covered,  smaller you are SOL.

BTW: I AM NOT A LAWYER!!!!!
