Trimming cases last night it occurred to me that there's a a surprising degree of variation in terms of stretch within a set of one time fired cases to the extent that some needed nothing removing, others quite a bit (few tho) - The cases in question were Dynamit Nobel (DAG headstamps), factory 55Gn FMJ.. is there enough variation in load/ seating (or anything else in a factory load) that it makes the difference?

I think the first thing to consider is that you dont know what length or the consistency of those cases before they were fired.

FWIW, I size my .223 brass in a Redding small base die and then in a Redding neck bushing die and have on occasion trimmed up to .015" off on a first firing.

Never bothered me though

Yup, good point, could be the variation was there from the start.

TBH its not a factor in anything for me either.. just something that I wondered about at the time.
