Anything wrong with a cast pre-ban lower? Any thing I should be aware of?

Generally speaking, they are not as strong, you'll find pictures of ones that have broken. Essential Arms cast lowers had a pretty good reputation.

I have an EA cast lower and it seems fine.  While they are inherently weaker, there are guns with polymer lowers out there that are working fine so I am not too worried about it

Polymer lowers like the Cavarms are priced relatively inexpensively compared to preban cast AR lowers.  If you break one no big deal, different story with the premium charged for prebans.

Not focusing on cost really.  I would not buy anything that I would expect to break be it an inexpensive poly lower or a 300 dollar cast preban.  What I am trying to illustrate is that realistically the odds of breaking a lower no matter what the material through failure rather then negligence is very minute.

Not saying you have to baby it just don't use the thing as a fucking hammer or try to split wood with it.

Plenty of them out there just chugging along. Just don't hammer the stock on the ground to clear jams and you should be ok.

Have a pre-ban EA lower that now sports an LMT upper. Total rounds well over 5K on the lower and all pin holes appear round. Only problems with it were the POS fire control parts put in by (probably) DPMS. Totally reliable as is except for ammo or mag problems.
I say go for it and replace the guts with premium parts.

All pre ban EAs were sold as stripped lowers (except a very small number that I think EA put together for some group as target competition rifles). Lord only knows what parts were stuffed in there. EA cast lowers were considered okay back when there were few lower manufacturers because EA was in spec.   Supposedly there are bunch of registered M16s built on EA lowers.

I have heard that DPMS bought the tooling

The sear/trigger from that rifle was donated to Sully so he could show REALLY shitty parts. Used to double like crazy with those parts.

Same setup, lower round count.  No problems.  I would bet my life on it.
