I found a stripped lower and just realized I forgot to change my address on my firearms purchasers id card.  Does anyone know how long this will take?  It took me about 9 months to originally get my card 8 years ago.  I am in New Jersey.

It all depends on how your town handles it. Some towns do it in a week and some make you repeat the entire application process. Some even make your surrender you ID card at time of address change.

Good luck.

does your DL have your address updated via a sticker with DMV?  If so it will show both addresses and I think thats ok.

With that being said, the FID never technically expires unless you become subject to a disability, but most dealers wont transfer with an outdated address.  The statute says to update within 30 days of moving, but it doesnt say failure to do so invalidates it.

Good luck.

thanks for the quick replys.  No i have a new DL.  I moved about two years ago and my license expired during this time, so i renewed and changed address all in one trip.  I thought i read somewhere that it had to be done within 30 days.  I can't find it now.  Am i wrong about that?  Or was it the handgun permit?

My change of address took 6 months.  My pistol permit was 12 days.

They take their time... depends on time in many instances it runs over 30 days.

Be sure you are complete and accurate in your application for duplicate FID.

For any town specific questions go to njhunter.com.  They have a thread re. FID and many people from NJ are there.
