It's always a pain to go somewhere you haven't been in years, and discover that roads have been moved, buildings torn down, new buildings built, and various other changes in landmarks that leave you scratching your head, trying to figure out how to get somewhere that you used to spend a lot of time.
This afternoon, I was clearing brush, trying to make it easy to get up to a level area on the upper part of the hillside. 40+ years ago, when the lower part of that section of hillside was pasture, all you had to do to find the path, was aim for the gap between the big tree on the left, and the clump of trees on the right. That put you on the easy path, so you didn't have to make a (relatively short) steep climb up a rocky area. Tried to aim my path clearing activity toward the old gap between the big tree on the left, and the clump of trees on the right, but there's big trees everywhere. Missed the gap, and hit the steep, rocky section. Now I've gotta back up and make another guess at where the gap is. SOMEBODY MOVED MY LANDMARKS!!! |
Kinda reminds of a guy I freakin hated in my company. He was big into the metal detector thing and I over heard him one day talking about an area he was going to hit that weekend. I bought every container of BB's that Wally World had and had a blast chumming the area.

It reminded me of something that happened shortly before I got married.,
My best man and I had to find a place that didn't have a direct way to get to it. We had detailed, written directions on how to get there, but we knew we would have to go there again, so we were trying to pick out landmarks that would be easy to remember. My best man was driving, while I was reading off the directions. We had to make a right turn at an intersection where there was nothing but an average looking house, with an average looking yard. They had a dog, but instead of barking or trying to chase us, it was completely ignoring us. As we turned, I heard my best man say "turn right by the dog licking it's balls." |
