Ok, so I have a perm attached muzzle break and I am looking to switch it out. Here is why. I have a 7" 4 rail YHM FF tube with standard front sight post. I am wanting to upgrade this to a 12" or longer FF 4-rail tube. Also the muzzle break is not nearly as affective as a Vortex or Phantom. The barrel is a 16" so I do not have to worry about making the new one perm attached again. I figure one way to do it is cut off the old one as it shows in the "build it yourself" step by step post, or leave it for now and do the work of cutting down the standard front sight post to a lo-pro. If I went with a 12" YHM then I believe i could leave everything else just the way it is and screw on the new 12" and be done with it. If I change the muzzle break first then I have the option of using a different style handguard such as a DD, LaRue(13.2) or Troy(13.5). I guess I am just trying to weigh my options and get some input from someone who has dealt with the same issue. On something like this I know half the battle is having the right tools for the job. I have access to a good vice, grinder and dremmel so I should be ok there.... I think. |

it'll be cheaper and faster the swap the gas block with someone instead of grinding it and painting it, etc. a can of alumahyde II will exceed the cost of shipping a trade to somebody, and it won't be hacked all to hell. if you like to make things yourself and opt to go with the self help route, that can be very satisfying as well. was i thinking wrong, of can't you remove the pinned hiders and have the barrel threaded without cutting it off? anybody remember about this? i was thinking it was that simple. |
