Just saw a sign on Carson that said this range will be opening next week.   Haven't been able to find any info aside from the sign and a guy from range control stating the same thing.   Anybody got any info and if it is opening is anyone down for a group shoot?

The online version of the Gazette, local newspaper, has had a couple of articles on it recently.  Looks cool.

Their facebook page is up with a web site to follow in the coming days. I sent a message on Sat nioght asking about the 1250 yard range and got a reply that night. It appears the long range will be open every weekend with steel out to 1000. Also will have animal shaped steel targets out to 500.

Anyone want to try it out Saturday?

What time did you have in mind? I will try to make it.

If you have to register your weapons on post to use the range, count me out

You do not go on post to access the range. No weapons registration, based on the guy I talked to.

From what I understand it's accessed off of 25 south of Carson gate 20, it butts up to the power plant land and CSPD demolition range.

I looked at their facebook page, evidently they've had a couple of open days already, maybe on a limited basis.  Open officially later this week.  I wish they'd get a regular web page up, with map and such.

ETA: Duh, perhaps this is it, over at El Paso County's website:

Opening ceremony on the 23rd.  Open to the public after that.  You don't have to cross the post security checkpoint and don't have to register your weapons at the Provost Marshall.

Anyone tried it yet?  Thinking of going tomorrow need to know what I can shoot there. Do they have any steel targets?  Long range short range?  Do they allow full auto?

Don't go to shoot tomorrow.  There is an opening ceremony lasting until mid afternoon.  I seriously doubt it will be open to the public during that.

I'm in Virginia Beach right now.  Will try it when I get back.

Went today.

Not a bad range, they drown you in endless speeches but the facilities aren't bad, just a little small.  I guess they are building more, looked like they had two ranges set up with overhangs and benches, maybe twenty shooting stations at each.

The hours are terrible though, they close at four on the weekends and only one range is open to the public during the week.  It was $10 per person, or $8 for active duty military, $4 for kids under 13 IIRC.

I've wondered what shooting under the roof is like--the metal roofing out at Dragonman's reflects gunblast something awful, i shoot out in the open instead.

It reflects but not as bad as metal.  I was shooting mainly suppressed because of the kids and didn't notice it.  They guy next to me had a .308 bolt gun and it was pretty hard.
