Went to Chicago for a speaking engagement for work on Friday and all I can say about it is I wouldn't live there if you paid me.

It's too congested, it's dirty and the people didn't seem too friendly. For reference we drove into the city and I never went outside of Wabash Ave. (the immediate area of DePaul University). The only other "big cities" I've been to are NYC, L.A., D.C., Indianapolis and Boston.

I know there are some nice places to go sightseeing in all those cities, great restaurants and the like but when a city gets that big it just feels "unnatural" to me. I just don't think that is many humans were meant to live in such a relatively small area.

If you like big cities, more power to ya but they are not for me. Some folks think big cities are magical and wonderful places. I guess I look at them as accidents waiting to happen.

ChiTown is not for everyone. Fat losers can't stand it. I like running by the lake on summer Sundays.

Elitist attitude from a Shitcago resident? Surely not.

Fuck Shitcago with a rusty spoon.

You have the be kidding me, there are tons of fat people in Chicago that love the place.  The primary activities people like around here generally boil down to:

1- Eating at restaurants
2- Going to bars and drinking
3- Watching sports games while doing either 1 or 2
4- Buying things

However, I guess you could really apply those 4 things to America as a whole.

Chicago has great restaurants, sports, theatre, museums and aquarium, the lakefront, more great restaurants, some cool shops (few and far between), and that's about it. These elements are nice to have within a reasonable drive's reach (although they lie in a cesspool) from the much nicer, more spacious, cleaner, and much less congested suburbs.

I also attend school at UIC. Only until  May 2014 though While at school, I LOVE wearing my NRA or whatever firearm related shirt I have. It makes me feel like I'm giving Chicago a big "Fuck you!," lol... On top of that, I also defend/promote/discuss the RKBA at every available opportunity to my fellow students/instructors. If I must travel to Shitcago, I want to make sure I express myself while there. They do it to us (the rest of the state) with their BS politics, so I will do it right back.

My brother was able to land a fantastic 6 figure job at a bank in the loop. He was seriously debating selling his town-home out in the burbs and buying real estate in the Shitty. He has since changed his mind (Thank god!). I like to think it was because of outside pressure from his family, but I'm sure it's because this hot asian girl he was chasing didn't pan out. My brother has a tendency to move his residence to follow women/relationships that don't work out lol... He doesn't know how lucky he is for not moving!

I've always believed the big cities to be humankinds' biggest failure.
If we didn't have vaccines against some pretty nasty viruses, they would really be a bad place to live.  In past centuries, plagues have taken millions of idiots in Europe, willing to live in such close quarters to one another.

I think it's funny how so many of those liberals are supposedly "green" environmentalists, when they live in a once green area paved over by blacktop, concrete, steel and glass.  Why anyone would want to look at buildings rather than trees, prairies, and wild animals, I will never know.  But I guess if planting those rooftop gardens eases their guilt, so be it.

I also find it hypocritical that so many of Chicago news people and sports figures, who promote the city, actually live in the suburbs, because, deep down, they know better.
Those who supposedly love the city, also almost always move to the suburban areas, when they get married and decide to have kids, making the suburbs overcrowded. They don't want their kids going to substandard schools, with overpaid staff, controlled by polititians, and an out of touch, teacher's union and walking past gang members on the way.
And that's why you see the Bill Fosters, Tammy Duckworth's, Brad Schneiders, Mark Kirk's, etc., being elected to office, because these morons bring their liberal voting record with them to the suburbs.

To top it off they keep going down to the city afterwards, for work or leisure, and clog up the roads.  People traveling 30 miles south and east in the morning, and 30 miles north and west in the afternoon.  Sounds like a great life to me.

And Rahm Emanuel, Richard Daley, Danny Davis, Bobby Rush, Jesse Jackson, and all the aldermen down there are such nice, upstanding, nonpolitical, responsible people.  Who wouldn't want to be around them?

I spend quite a bit of time in Chicago for work. It has its strong points and weak points. The amenities are superb...but the people are often rude assholes. Couple that to sky high prices on damn near everything, corrupt politicians, bat shit crazy traffic, stifling gun laws and the insane crime rate...and it makes for a miserable place to visit overall. Honestly, I spend a ton of time there...if I never had to go back again, it would be too soon.

Cities are fine.  Chicago is a fine city.  Chicago politicians are awful, but the city is great.

If you dont like cities and cannot handle the trade offs then clearly its not for you.  To say its awful is an opinion that many would not agree with.

So, almost one in three adults living in Chicago can't stand it?

I don't like Chicago much either, but I'm glad most of the people that live there stay up in that area. That way they are not down here....LOL

On a serious note my daughter owes her life to the staff at Children's Memorial so I can't totally bash Chicago.

I can't imagine what that even means. I've had to work in the city for years and as far as I'm concerned, it sucks. Trying to mobilize personnel, material deliveries and equipment placement are a nightmare not too mention all the bureaucracy involved even when working for municipal agencies. I guess that must make me a fat loser??

The gentleman who runs the 609 shuttle is a firearms instructor and a member here.
He occasionally wears the boltface.

To reiterate, I have no more hate for the city of Chicago than any other major metro area I've visited which I admit are few in number. I spent the first 30 yrs. of my life in a town of about 128K and live in a town with a population of about 60K. That's my frame of reference. Even though I live in the 'burbs now I plan on moving a little further out so I can get a few acres between me and my neighbors.

I just feel that big cities are bad. You can stick all the nice restaurants and culture in them you want but for me that doesn't outweigh their inherent problems.

I was born in the city and now reside in the suburbs. Chicago would be perfect place to live if cops would do their jobs, the politicians weren't corrupt assholes, and stupid gun laws were all repealed. Chicago is bar far cleaner than any other city mainly because of all the millions Rahm keeps pouring into the downtown area for cleaning crews and "beautification".
