A friend of mine just phoned to tell me about something that happened to him yesterday.. His girlfriend has started to keep chickens.. and night before last there was a break in and one was stolen (actually it was the Cockrell that was pinched). She reported it to the local police station. Later in the day my mate (who up until this point didn't know abut the theft) gets a call from the investigating officer. The Officer starts to go through the formalities when my mate says to him.. 'hang on a sec.. I know exactly who did this now I think about it.. I can even give you a description I think'. The officer is apparently very enthusiastic at this idea. 'Well' she says.. 'from memory it was a bloke....I saw him round here looking shifty a few nights ago..' the copper writes this down ' from what I remember, he had a big brown coat on... actually it was kind of dark red'... ' go on' says the copper.. 'he also had a drawn, gaunt face, beady eyes, oh, and particularly big ears.. '.. OK says the copper 'yes, but his really distinguishing feature was the tale' 'tale?' says the copper, 'how do you mean?' My mate is pissing himself at this point. The copper finally clicked. I'm not sure he saw the funny side either.

We have the same thing here, and my neighbour puts cat food out for them every night, even seen her trying to hand feed one too, silly cow. So our partridges and chickens are an endangered species.
These Beech Marten Chew your cars cables and rubber seals and kill the odd chicken or three too. Tony |

A mate shot about 10 in four days , a few years back .( AND LOST 30+ CHICKENS ) on the fifth day he was walking his dog checking the fence ( with his shotgun ) and found 2 rspca vans , backed up to his fence just about to let 2 more go , onto his land .I think they had been caching them at Mc Donald's on a relocation program.they soon left and took the 2 fox with them , after the police turned up . |
A good few years back I was shooting a farm in clacton with a chap known to fluffy cannon, and a transit van was releasing foxes on one of the fields. The farmer was a bit perplexed. I managed 4 while 1 legged it. The transit owners, some local animal hospital were very upset that their hard work was ended so sharply. I found it amusing to say the least
