Completed class got the paper then did online ap and finger print thing couple weeks later.  Is that all I need to do? Do I need to submit the paper from the class or do they do that after competing the class?  It's been a 2-3wks now since finger prints and haven't heard anything.

You should have a receipt page from when you applied online.  It has a barcode at the top. It also has a checklist of items you need to send in.  Scan and email that along with your CHL100 and whatever else is called for on the checklist.

Your application will not be processed until DPS receives the CHL100 and the barcode page.

Screenshot the barcode page, save as image, scan chl-100, save as image, and attach (sp?) them both to your online "profile" on the DPS CHL website for the quickest results. You can also print the barcode page and send a copy of your chl-100 via USPS to the DPS chl address.

The checklist doesn't say they need the barcode...

I didn't send the barcode with my packet. I sent packet 40 days ago, and still haven't seen update online, and don't see a place to put anything in my profile.

I called a couple days ago, and the person told me everything was in order, it would just take time.

Unless they have changed things, the check sheet calls for including the check sheet.   The check sheet is on the bar code page.

I just checked again and the checklist calls for
Fingerprints (via FAST)
CHL-6 only if you don't have Texas ID
CHL-100 training form
Copy of DD-214
Doesn't say anything about bar code...

That may be why mine is taking so long, but I doubt it, as my wife sent hers off 4 days before mine and had it in hand 2 weeks later.

Apparently the bar code is not required, it may speed things up,I don't know.

Wife sent her app with it 4 days before I did, and got it back in less than 2 weeks, mine took 6 weeks and I didn't include the bar code.

The barcode page is not necessary. It is a checklist to aid the applicant. Clearly stated thereon, it says:

Checklist - Please submit the following items:

  • Electronic fingerprints submitted using FAST (for more information regarding fingerprint services visit the Regulatory Services Division website at: http://www.dps.texas.gov/RSD/CHL/index.htm).

  • CHL6 is required if applicant does not hold a Texas DL or ID Card. Out of State applicants must submit a copy of their state DL or ID Card.
NOTE for Texas DL/ID holders: The Texas DL or ID photo on file with the Department will be used for the CHL.

  • CHL100 Certificate of Training Form (received from CHL instructor upon course completion).

The CHL-100 may be scanned and submitted electronically, or mailed in. When I had completed all requirements, I submitted mine electronically and had my CHL in hand in only 29 days!!! It was received 5-7-2015, so this data is very recent. YMMV.

Hope this helps. Disclaimer - I am not an expert, this is the way it worked for my wife and I...
