My usual spot for chukar looks very poor this year. Anyone having any luck in the south or within 150 miles of Las Vegas?

Let me know if you need a hunting companion. I'd love to give it a try. The only chucker I have hunted were on the Hafen gamebird ranch in mesquite and that was just a couple of strays we saw while pheasant hunting there. Saw a few wild ones in the McDonald's parking lot in tonopah once.

Crapshoot next time we go I will let you know. Is the Hafen place still open? I went there once years ago.

Not sure. Their fields got wiped out several years back. Not sure if they re-opened the game bird venture or not. I could do some digging and ask around if you'd like.

I've been going to another place which is between Mesquite and St. George its called Big Cottonwood Game Ranch. Good place to do some bird hunting. I finally got a report on my usual chukar area and the news is pretty grim one small covey spotted and little to no water in the area. Another crappy year for chukar. Very disappointing.

Anyone try southeast of Alamo?

Crappy year, again.  So far, south of Hwy 50 is very spotty.  Not quite as bad as last year though.

Back in the day, I remember the Searchlight and Nelson areas were teeming with all the small game and varmints you could want (even squirrels).

Not so much anymore.

3 Mondays in a row out training the new pup and have seen one.  Putting 20+ miles on per day getting in all the right places.....

Sometimes I think its a curse that I live in this state!
