| What exactly are the steps to owning a full auto in Nevada? I am in Reno. Do you apply with the serial number, make and model of the gun you want to buy? Or do you just apply and pick a weapon out later. What is a CLEO? After approval can I modify my AR-15 to full auto? I have no idea how to go about this, are the steps to get a silencer the same? Is there a $200 annual tax on each piece? Any and all help is appreciated, some people have tried to explain this but have different information to the point I don't know what to believe! Thanks in advance, JH |

ARFCOM NFA You must have all the guns information for completion of the forms. A CLEO is a chief law enforcement officer for the area which you reside. NO, you can't modify your AR to full auto, unless you buy a lightning link or registered drop in auto sear. The $200 tax stamp is a one time fee, for the transfer. The process is the same for a silencer, destructive device, short barrel shotgun or short barrel rifle. It is still legal for new silencers, SBS and SBRs to be manufactured and registered for general public sale. |
| Thank you RDP. The easiest route for me, and I hope the least expensive, is to modify my AR. Lighting Link? I have seen the auto sear and if I remember correctly they weren't too expensive, although I do not know if they are registered. How do I start? Would I list the S/N of my AR on the forms? And then once approved get the parts for modification? Probably can't buy the stuff untill everything is approved. Where do I get the forms etc? Sorry to be such a noob D/A but this is all new to me, thanks again. |
For the average citizen, it's NOT legal to convert/modify AR15 into full auto .... end of story, no discussion, no if and or but, blah blah blah... Yes open your eyes and read this again and don't try to be creative with this way or that way to convert AR15 into full auto. Yg |

Not true.... A lightning link or Drop in sear is the registered part and can go in ANY weapon that the device was designed for. Now, lightning links are 7-8k. Drop in sears 12-14k. Not cheap anymore. There is a registered M16 reweld on the board for 9k. It is in reno and that is a good price for one. |
Someone please correct me if I am wrong. It was my understanding that an "average citizen" could purchase a Drop in Auto Sear (DIAS) if it was manufactured pre-86 and was originally listed on a Form 1 and it was not a Dealer Sample. The "average citizen" would of course have to pay the $200.00 Transfer Fee and submit all the necessary paperwork with BATFE to be legal. Also, as RDP stated Lightning Links and DIAS' are very expensive, but they can be had. |
Please re-read jhunter382 reply as follow:
Jhunter382 was refering to a straight conversion from an AR15 to full auto. We are not dealing with RLL or RDIAS (all legal ofcourse). He wants the cheap way. Now, which part of an "average citizen" can NOT legally convert/modify an AR15 into a full auto is NOT True (I hope it's not true so I along with many other here are going to convert our AR15 to full auto for cheap)? My reply wasn't refering to using an AR15 receiver as the host for a RLL or RDIAS. Yg |
