The Harris County Sheriff's Office said the business had been broken into several times, so owner Bruce Madison installed a security system that alerted him when a burglar stepped foot on his property.

Madison grabbed his shotgun and came to defend his property, investigators said.

Harris County investigators said Marcial Silva, 17, and two other teens broke out a window, grabbed a flat-screen TV and tools before they were confronted by Madison.

Deputies said Madison opened fire, killing Silva and critically wounding another teenager.

A third suspect was later found hiding in the business.
