Greetings All,
Anybody know who gives the state class in the DFW area? (Other than Alpine) I retired from LEO last year and figured I should go ahead and get one. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks. |

DFW Gun Club is one to check out, we have / had 2 board members that teach there. Tiger Valley also teaches the CHL classes sometimes out at Elm Fork shooting range. and The Texas Concealed Carry Institute in McKinney are ones that I would recommend. I would personally stay away from The Texas Handgun Academy. There are a lot of really good instructors, as some will follow and also give recommendations. |

I took the class @ dfw gun range. Top notch guys/gals. My only complaint was being told chl is a privledge and not a right. While that's what the law implies I do not agree. Don't anger the fingerprint lady, she's a tough one lol. Amen Brother! Shirley is one tough lady! She WILL kick your ass! I understand about privilege vs. right....it's just the way the laws are written. Better to be informed than not! Be safe! |

Turn-Key, Will your agency allow you to carry under the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act of 2004? Under that, honorably retired LEO's can carry nationwide. Yes, they do. I just figured it would be best to have both as I will be traveling a lot in the future. Unless something has changed I believe that LEOSA required you to have an annual certification (re-qualification) to demonstrate proficiency. The Texas CHL will be a good back up if I don’t get the chance to requal. in time. |

If you're still looking, Texas CQB
They just bought out the old indoor range in Burleson. If you have any gripes against Cheaper than Dirt, then don't go there, it's owned by the same guy and staffed by CTD employees. If you're ok with CTD, then i'd recommend them, i shoot there a fair bit and they're quite open with policy on double tap/rapid fire. When SHTF i don't care how good i am of a shot at "2 second intervals." Dammit i'm gonna draw and drain until the slide locks back and doesnt go forward again. |

Been real busy lately so I haven't had a chance to say thanks for all the input. That's what I enjoy about this site, lots of people are very willing to help. (mall ninjas excluded) I ended up talking with the people at Safeshot. He's a Sgt for FTW PD. It turned out I didn't need to take the class, just do the paper work and qualify. Did all that on the 22nd, sent in my packet two days later, and now am waiting. He said is should be 2 or 3 months because there has been a real back log lately. Luckily I'm a patient guy. Take care all, and be safe!! |

He keeps a good pace for the class and provides thorough answers for any question. |

Keith McGuire is a no-BS guy. Tells you what you need to know. Indeed he is!! After some research, I know he got where he is by standing up for what he believes, and, fighting the good fight when you've been wronged!! Been there done that!! (Rock on Brother )
While I was filling out my paperwork in the front room I got to hear the second part of his class. I was a firearms instructor for 17 years for the Feds, and was impressed by his control of the room and his knowledge. When I got to the range, I was equally impressed! The entire crew, (Range Master, and the line Instructors) were all about safety and helping people that needed it. Anybody that chooses Safeshot wont go wrong!! |
