Just for the record, this is not an offer to sell anything.  I was just curious if anyone has used one of the St. Louis area shops to sell a firearm.  It would seem this would be a good method to get something seen by a lot of potential buyers and perhaps even avoid having to make the FTF transaction yourself. If someone has done this before, how much do they typically charge?  Ten percent would seem fair especially if you can get more exposure for a possible sale. I'm also guessing they do the NICS check and complete all paperwork.

I've sold a few things at C&S. They've always treated me fairly.

A good friend of mine works at a consignment auction.  The only thing I know is that they won't sell handguns due to the FFL/NICS requirement.  I'll ask about thier commission next time I talk to him.

And yes, they do sell at some crazy high prices sometimes.

Your friend's bosses need a refresh on the statutes.  Firearm sales at public auctions are treated as face to face transactions in Missouri, and that includes hand guns.  Now, if they choose not to sell handguns as a business policy, then that is another thing altogether.

Back to the original question.  My friend that owns Josephville Gunshop does consignment sales constantly, and he will advertise the gun on Gunbroker for you and take care of shipping and so on.  His shop hours are limited to two to three hours every day due to his job, but there is a fair bit of traffic through, too.

I have sold a few on consignment at local FFLs. 10% was the going rate a couple years ago.

Crap, for 10% i might be willing to do it, but at those prices that dealer better clean, polish, refinish, and get above retail for whatever I take him.

He was selling ARs for $3000 and gun safes for waay too much. He said a ban was a certainty, and better to buy his guns now, and a safe because once they were banned, criminals and other gun owners are going to be going door-to-door to steal guns.

Oh, and his safes (12 gauge steel) couldn't be broken into. I specifically asked about an angle grinder. Nope, special steel can't be drilled and even a grinding wheel won't get through it.

Christ, my 5g safe could be cut with an angle grinder with enough time, where do I get me some of that steel?

Depending on what the gun is, both Mid-America and Bulls Eye do consignment.

I have no idea what they charge?
