We've practically hijacked a couple other candidate threads with our discussion of Corey Stapleton, so I thought I'd start one about him. I've met Corey several times during his last run for Governor. His running mate then, Bob Keenan, goes to the same men's Bible study group that I do. Every time Corey was in the Flathead he came with Bob. I spent as much time as I could talking to him when he was around. Despite him being a Naval Officer I still back him As far as the 2A goes, this is a current post on his Face Book page: "Liberals deny History on guns. How does a government disarm its citizens? By tracking and logging which citizens have firearms.. and then 'something' happens--a wicked leader gets elected, etc., and suddenly the government is in a position to confiscate the peoples' ability to defend themselves. Private gun transactions in America must always be allowed without universal background investigations by our government." Like I said, he's my guy in the race. |

He's my guy, too. But for different reasons.
First, he's from Billings so he's electable. Billings swings elections in our state and they are more likely to turn out for the hometown boy. Second, he's got some good ideas. For example, he wants to spend some of our half-billion dollar surplus to build a medical school in our state, something we don't have. I figure the oil boom will bust at some point and we would be well advised to spend some of that money on permanent improvements to the State instead of more of the same. Third, he's a nice guy. When he was in the Legislature I met him a few times when he was in Helena. He was down-to-earth. Fourth, he's got no support from the Party. They have come out for Rosendale and Arntzen and against Zinke, who has all the money so far. If he gets the nod and wins, he will get a fairly free hand in cleaning out the GOP rats nest that we keep for a HQ in Helena. And he'll be motivated. Fifth. He called bullshit on Rick Hill during the gubernatorial race. Called him out as a carpet-bagging flip-flopper who was unelectable (link). If he's not afraid to ruffle feathers here, I think he can be trusted in D.C. to do the same. |
