I was passing through Dallas a few days ago when I was stuck behind some people going under the speed limit. So I sped up to go around a truck and as soon a came around the truck there was a cop. So I naturally slowed down, but I might have been going up to 5-12 MPH over the speed limit while overtaking the vehicle. Anyhow the cop was outside his car leaning over the trunk pointing his radar. So as I am going past I saw him get up and slowly walk to the door. So I am driving down the road waiting for him to drive up and get me, but he never came. After about 3 miles I take the ramp to go on the other highway I needed to go on. So the cop never came after me even though I saw him stand up. Are they taking pictures and mailing tickets or did he just not bother going after me ?

Drive faster next time, and see how close you can get to him as you pass him.
Flip him off and shout obscenities as you fly by him for good measure.

maybe he remembered the departments No Chase policy. I bet pretty soon if they catch you speeding on radar they will just expect you just pull over on the honor system.

I dont even blink until my violators go 15 over.  Then I give the evil eye.  Long as I see brake lights Im happy.

That is a decent break. You are O.K. for a traffic officer in my book.

Hell, so many people speed here in Dallas, if you don't too , they will run you down from behind.

Dallas usually doesnt go after you unless you are 15MPH over.  I talk to the "squad" that drive the B40 Camaros.  They said at 16 over, you're getting lit up, but you may or may not get the ticket.  At 15MPH over they get plenty of business.  Below 15 MPH you have to be driving like a nut to get lit, because they really dont care.  If you slow down real fast, you'll probably see them laughing at you.  They leave the lower speeding tickets to the Constables(who gladly accept), DART(who may or may not even be allowed to enforce speeding in anything but the HoV), and DCSO(who could also careless) south of downtown.

They are there mostly for effect.  Usually someone bitches to the upper echelon enough that they get deployed.  They arent there for tickets, just to get you to slow down.

I'm trying to get reaslly nice shots of the Camaros, because I dont think they'll be around much longer.  The Camaros are one of the really neat things DPD has.  Rumor has it the paint job on those Camaros might become the DPD standard.   Anyways, I have 4 of the 6. So when I see them working, which is purely out of the blue(no pun), I ask to get pics of the cars.  Sometimes I try to get them hauling ass.  Those Camaros scoot!

The philosophy that I've adopted is this: 5 for you, 5 for me and 5 for everyone else.  In other words, I don't chase you down til you are 15 over.

Dallas is taking delivery of Chargers, but they are V6 only.  I guess for trial.  The next batch will be V8s though.

I don't bother unless it is resid street, dangerous to another or 15 over.  It is not worth getting called into court on your day off at 8 in the morning when the bastards at the court know damn well you work the night shift to go in and have a jury full of people who go 5-10 over regularly dismiss your ticket.

It still amazes me people think ofcs get some sort of cookie or kick back on tickets or that ofcs are hoping to make more money for the city.  I could maybe see that in a township, but in major cities with huge tax base.  It blows me away how many adults there are they will never stop thinking and acting like children.  It shouldn't surprise me, but some how it always does.

Rant off.

Jesus those constables drive me fucking nuts....

They shoot the school zones around my house.... so the driven speed ends up being 15mph

But the funny part I never see them assist when DPD/RPD is arresting people in the apartments near by or cruising through my neighborhood on patrol.

Do those guys only do traffic?  Also they seem to be more prevalent outside city of Dallas but still in Dallas county.

Several things could of happened there...
1: Waiting on a particular vehicle
2: You weren't driving too much over the limit
3: He knew you were passing another vehicle
4: He got a call
5: Some cops are nice, some are a-holes.. He was probably nice

I usually wont make a stop unless they are 6mph or over. But I work on a MHMR campus, so the speed limit is 15, 25 in some areas. If I make a stop for 16-21, its because I want to check the vehicle and driver...

Traffic, warrants, court duties, and emergency vehicle escort.

Passing a car by 2 more mph doesn't say anything. If the cop was doing 100 mph and you pass him at 102 mph................

In retrospect.... I've stopped somebody like you....                 hhmmmmmmmmmmm
Except he didn't jst say yes sir and I have never accused anybody of disrespect (such a ghetto way of arguing).

had my date with me so i was being extra nice..

cop asked what i did for a living ,, i answered "sales"  thats when he came up with the "disrespecting him
" thing..
ring a bell ?

if it was you .. you were an ass   .. if not then
a co-worker of yours was an ass..

what do you mean ? " some one like me.. "?

edit:  to better refresh your memory  i was in an 06 Altima in a Suit and Tie..

I agree it IS a ghetto ass way of arguing.

I thought my goose was cooked there. That is good to know. If he didnt stand up and walk back to the door right after I passed, then I wouldnt have worried. I guess after he stood up, he said "ahh, screw it. only 8 over."

Lol wasn't me. By "like you" I meant somebody that thought passing the police was a good idea.

Except in his situation he:
Came flying up to come even with my rear bumper (me in left lane, he was in center)
Matched my speed (35mph in a 35 zone) for a couple hundred feet.
Accelerated and passed me, causing me to accelerate and pace him
Then he finally settled on a speed of 52 mph for a few blocks (before deccelerating to 0 mph when the red and blue lights came on)
Before I can even get out of my car he shouts "WHAT YOU STOPPIN ME FO?"

Other comments included "I ain't afraid to pass the pol--leece." and "I ain't disrespecting nobody." Again, I don't talk about respect.

Oops hijack.....

To the OP:

Officers have discretion. Just because he saw you commit a violation doesn't mean he has to stop you. Maybe his radar battery died. Maybe he had to go to the bathroom. I doubt they are mailing tickets. The red light cameras already do that .

Yes they do. The news showed footage of one doing that a couple months ago during a report of a dangerous curve in a road.
