were kind enough to give my girlfriend 2 tickets today while she was trying to pick me up from Love Field. 1 for failing to obey the instructions of an officer and another for parking in a no park zone. Background: She pulls up into the pick up/drop off area for Southwest after i texted her that our wheels were on the ground and i'd be out soon. She's slow cruising looking for a spot to pull into to wait on me to come out with my bags. After she finds one she pulls in, almost immediately the Dallas PD officer moderating traffic motions for her to move forward. She doesn't know why since there's no one in front of or behind her, but a car had just pulled away, so she moves up a few car lengths (mind you, she's not in the flowing lanes of traffic, but in the shoulder area). Less than a minute later he once again addresses her and points for her to move forward; so she bumps up a few more car lengths. At this point she is quite near the end of the lane, the only vehicle still in front of her is a family that's been there since she got there and who she's been watching try to fit an ice chest into their car for the past few minutes. Right about this time I send her a text that the luggage carousel just started and I'll be out soon. Immediately after Office X once again motions for her to move forward, so she move's up into the location the other car was in. Two minutes after I get a text saying she just got 2 tickets for $700. Apparently the officer had come up irate demanding to know why she was parked there, she replied that it's where she thought he had signaled her to move to, at which point he got even more ticked and inquired why he would have told her to move into a clearly marked "no parking" area? When she told him she didn't know and where I was he responded by instructing her to "Get in contact with your party." not to move, not to circle back around, to "Get in contact with your party" and then he walked away. She tries to call me and before she can get the call through he comes back fuming about how "Ya know, i don't wanna write tickets on memorial day weekend" and "I know the economy is down but it looks like you're just gonna make me write a 700 dollar ticket." About a minute later I walk out. Where the hell is she? I just saw the car... So I call her, she's sobbing and all I can get out of her is "i'm in a parking garage, i don't know where, i'll be on the top." Two parking garages later I find her. Sure enough, 2 tickets, no amount posted on them, so going on the cop's statement for what they'll cost. They sure as hell aren't getting paid, even if the lawyer to fight them costs just as much or more than the ticket's themselves. Any input from yall on a way to go about resolving this issue for less than the cost of a new AR? Everything that comes to my mind just results in more legal fees and potential jail time, I've been fuming for the past 4 hours about this.

cell phone parking lot
Friends and relatives picking up passengers are welcome to use the Cell Phone Lot, a designated waiting area for vehicles and an alternative to waiting in Garages A and B or circling the airport. These are the only designated waiting areas, and parking on the street could result in a parking fine. The Cell Phone Lot has 45 parking spots and is located on the east side of the Cedar Springs Road, past the parking shuttle and the Hertz Rental Car. The Cell Phone Lot was relocated in June 2010 to a convenient area near the main entrances of Terminal 1 (Delta and Continental/United Airlines) and Terminal 2 (Southwest Airlines). |

Sounds like the GF was just confused by the situation. Unfortunate for sure. You can't stop... gotta keep circling around. I'm sure I'll get called all sorts of things by the LEO-worshippers who feel civil society will fall without uniformed, armed soldiers of the attorney general patrolling the masses. Question: Would it have been too goddamn difficult for the LEO to verbally tell the operator of said vehicle that she cannot keep her vehicle there? Since when the hell is a repeated hand gesture vaguely meaning "move up/forward" construed as a concrete command wherein there is no doubt confusion will ensue. Sometimes the cops forget that the common courtesy they expect and appreciate from the citizenry is a two-way street. "Oh, I can't stay here in my vehicle while I wait for my boyfriend? Where can I go, officer? Really? Not a problem. Thanks." |
|
So what yall are saying is that she shouldve completely ignore all the signs pointing to southwest drop off and pick up. K, just making sure i understand.
As for the cellphone lot, I fly all over the country for business and have seen a few of these, never knew what they were for. I sure as hell do know what the areas labeled "loading and unloading" or "drop off and pick up" are for. |

How would you feel if I said your gf was too stupid to figure it out herself when I don't know anything about her? Pisses you off doesn't it??? Don't be the typical arfcommer making assumptions and judge people you don't know. |
| I ran into something similar at IAH My wife went into the terminal to find her son and it took about ten minutes for him to get his stuff together and I had a similar problem with a rent a cop I wanted to get out of my truck and give him a piece of my mind, and no I wasn,t blocking traffic. What I really wanted to do was kick his butt. |

I thought he was talking about DFW Intl. (which is well marked and clearly signposted), but I am unfamiliar with this airport.
Is it really so unclear? or is this girl just unobservant? Also you may want to check the definition of 'parking', because if the vehicle was running and not in the 'park' gear then the vehicle was never parked and thus cannot be liable for a 'parking in a no parking' zone ticket. At least that's what the law was when I worked in LE (outside of TX). |

Just got back from Love Field.
Being Memorial Day Weekend & seeing Byron Nelson vehicles, it appears DPD is enforcing illegal parking to keep traffic moving. I did see an officer issue a ticket to an individual parked in the UNLOADING ONLY zone on the lower level for departures. I didn't see the arrival area so can't comment on this but signs are everywhere. Does she remember where she was parking? Unlike DFW, Love has one dropoff and one pickup area so on busy travel days the place is a ZOO. More likely than not your g/f will be stuck with this fine - consider it a lesson learned to watch traffic signs at airports. BTW, I don't like the fact that you have to pay $ to pick passengers up at DFW. |

It is just too expensive and too much of a hassle anymore. If I can't drive, I'm just not going to go... F*** the airlines. F*** the airports. F*** the TSA. And F*** the airport police. Too many thing I've not seen or done right here in Texas. And plenty I wouldn't mind doing again. All the other states can s*** it. I'll keep my $$$ at home. |

The whole area is posted no parking, stopping, loading only. Its been that way for years, since about September 2001. She was told about 4 different times to move according to your OP. She is then told to contact her party (you). Warns her he doesn't want to ticket her on Memorial Day Weekend, economy. You take your time, she hasn't moved after repeated pleas to do so and even threats of tickets. Sorry, your gf needs to learn to read or follow directions, not worry about contacting you when you aren't even at the baggage claim. What gate did you land at? If you felt so strong, you should have gone and talked to the cop, then ask to speak to his supervisor if he was being a real dick. I did that at IAH. Same type of situation. Cop was a real bitch, I called her on it, and we went to talk to her supervisor. On the way we both chilled out, talked about how shitty both our day was going, and the following week I went out on a date with her. |

Your ignorance is as bad as your old lady's ability to read and comprehend signage and verbal commands. Getting the Love Field assignments is one of the cushier gigs in Dallas. There is literally a waiting list to go there, and holidays have nothing to do with it. So why dont you drop the "we been wronged by the man", and simply go speak with the officer, speak to his boss, and if all else fails, fight the tickets. Try and be more level headed than you are so far. |

I had a full time job, no warrants, everything paper on my truck was in order. Cop was a DWI enforcement officer on lone to traffic division. He hated doing it, but he wrote me a ticket. I asked him if it was worth fighting, he said "I think so". I did, I was out in 30 minutes with a dismissal. The people in traffic court wore shitty clothes, anf wore nice clothes. Thr racial division was equal. In light of your arrogance, I hope you get stuck with them. |

City of Dallas has always been pretty aggressive about enforcing the loading zone rules at Love Field. As long as I can remember they always have a police officer telling people to clear out. After 9/11 they stepped it up. It was not until the Glasgow Airport car bombing that a near zero tolerance stance was taken. They now have a Dallas Police wrecker sitting on standby in the arrival area. If you get out of your car for any reason, for any length of time, they tow your car away. They are not playing around. For good reason.
The cell phone lot. Use it! Sucks that some tickets were issued. In Dallas the officers rarely show up for court although if you were written a citation for not obeying an officer I think the chances of him showing to court are magnified. You can enter a plea of not guilty and your court date will probably be fall of 2011 or winter of 2012. Price is the same as just paying it outright now versus later. |

And its the most brilliant thing about Love Field and why I enjoy picking people up there. You pull in the lot around landing time, park in one of the many available spots, hang out for a few, then wait for your person to call. Much easier than pulling around and round at the pickup area, and great for avoiding situations like this. |

Quoted: DFW entrance is via toll road with minimum $1 fee. When did that change? You used to have around 1/2 hour before you were charged for being inside the airport grounds at DFW. ETA - When I was still flying (weekly to/from client sites), the pick up areas and rules were very clearly marked at Love Field, same for cell phone parking lot at DFW. OP - be glad this wasn't your g/f |

| Ya I know that part of love it is unloading but people do sit and wait in that area fairly often. There are sighns but they aren't big and can be missed specially if your not familiar with it. Officer sounds like he was annoyed but he could have explained himself. Fight it and see what happens. |

All the flow of Love is funneled into a relatively short space so illegal parking restrictions need to be inforced, especially during busy time. Would you feel different if you're trying to catch a flight and miss due to folks backing up the traffic? |
