| I saw in other threads where other shooters get together........... do any of you guys from the Dallas area wanna to get together and go shooting? I am in the Plano/McKinney area actually. |
Well..... the majority of the DFW guys don't actually shoot......at least none of us have actually seen them shoot, but they do own some really neat stuff... comes to mind.Actually, we're doing that this weekend. At the KT Dillon Range in Watt, between Waco and Mexia, hosted by Tiger Valley. Many of the DFW members are already there, camping out. There's some sort of pesky thread about it in this forum, IIRC it'll be $25/day, per person...but, you get all sorts of neat targets, multiple handgun bays, rifle range, and the 1000 yard range....and some other stuff that escapes me at the moment. You are more than welcome to attend...in fact, we expect you attend....otherwise you'll have to show up either at the Hun Farm or every single gun show within 100 miles. mm won't actually be there this weekend, i think he's bowling or something...he mentioned Masonite. |
| Mckinney gun range doesnt really care how you shoot, they just want your money and to keep it safe. but backwoods traps have stupid range masters that pretty much kill all the fun in shooting, hot line cold line no double taps or short rapid fire. I like to have some freedom in shooting, I live in Princeton actually in my new house but I also own land in the rural area but there are too many neighbors so no shooting goes on there. I need to find someone where they own some land and everybody can come over and have a good time shooting without paying the stupid range fees. mckinney gun range fees are $15 for just either handgun or rifle but for both it is $18.50, the good thing about backwoods traps is that it is only $12 for everything. We need to to do some balistic shooting like Old-Painless, just some ideas. |
| Oh I forgot to say that backwoods traps will only let you shoot soft point/lead tip .223 only, so who cares if the $12 range fee is low They charge $15 for a box of 50 lead tip bullets. so I hate going there but I usally draw a crowd when shooting the tactical entry AR15. |

Tom Bean (Ralph's Range) · Website: none · Phone: 903-546-6524 · Address: FM902 and Joe Bob Road, Tom Bean, TX · Hours: Any Reasonable Time · Fees: $3/Hour · Highlights: Basically an open range with a 12 foot high 50 foot long berm. Has target stands for 1x2x8 posts (you bring 1x2x8 posts to tack targets to), Anything legal is allowed (speed shooting, holster draws, FMJ, AP, Tracer, Title I/II, .50 BMG, tannerite). ~120 yds max range. Bench/seated/standing/prone all allowed. Closest way for you is 380 to 78 north thru Blue Ridge to the light at State hwy 121. 78 turns into fm 160 at the light. Take 160 to Whitewright and turn left on state hwy 11. Take 11 to the blinking light in beautiful downtown Tom Bean turn left go 1 block turn right and the range will be on your right about 3/4 of a mile. Look for a big barn that usually has several tour bus sitting outside. It's best to bring your own target stands because the ones left at the range are usually pretty well wacked most of the time. |
I shoot at Backwoods all the time. I never draw a crowd - I see LOTS of AR's there. They recently added a 50yd range just for .22's and military iron sight weapons. One of the RO's is really cool, and really good. The other is a moron. Both leave you alone once they get to know you. I cant stand CCGR - high range fee, gotta hump your gear, LOUD shoot house and tiny. Get's packed QUICK too. No thanks. Backwoods has nice benches, lots of space... and the HP/SP thing sucks... so just shoot Wolf, it's cheap. Otherwise, I load my own so it's no big deal... most of the area ranges have the same no FMJ rules. Just post here when you wanna go, I am sure someone will meet up with ya! I know I would. |
comes to mind.
