Couple months ago someone hit my brother-in-law's business and stripped 4 AC units. Today I got to our business which is about 10 miles from my brother-in-laws and my neighbor stopped in right after we opened. He said someone had jumped the curb and drove around the building last night. They backed up to my utility trailer I keep here behind the building but luckily the neighbor scared them off when he turned on his outside lights. The thieving SOB had already cut the lock on my utility trailer and there were footprints in the mud up to one of our AC units. No fingerprints were left, only tire tracks and footprints.
Suggestions? I am wondering if one of those gas station DVR camera setups are worth it. We already have a gate, but need to put up some posts to keep someone from jumping the curb and driving around it. We have 4 outside lights and keep the place well lit at night. |

Suggestions? I like the solutions at this website: http://www.ssarmory.com/ The posts have kept poachers off my old lease down south, as well as a nice gate and signs. |

Motion sensing lights help deter theft, as well as there are products like AC Armor, that armor your AC units so that people cannot take them apart to steal the copper inside. If a crook saw that on your units, they wouldn't bother doing anything more. Link for armor please? |

Depending on your situation, for AC units I use a screw kit that requires an uncommon tool head so as to prevent dis-assembly along with anchor rods to prevent the snatch and go type thefts.
Any good deterrent that makes someone else the easier target is always going to work better for you. |

We put cages or fences on all the units we set, Bottom line is it just slows them down. We set 5 units over by Greenbriar mall ( I know ) two days later we were ordering new units and demoing out what they left of the cages. The client then put a camera system looking at the units. Now he has some nice video of them stealing the units twice more.
Dont get me wrong, the cages are a great Idea and do slow them down and hopefully thats enough time for someone to catch them. |
| Locks will only keep honest people honest. Cameras will only allow you to watch the sons of bitches take your stuff after it has already happened. The sad fact is, if somebody wants your stuff they will probably get it. I know I sound synical but I've been hit really hard a couple of times in the last few years. My advice is to insure every thing. |

I strongly suggested he have his HVAC service company pull the outside units & put them inside. I went by the old shop to get a few things that were left behind. Took a quick tour around the building to check & thought Pop took my advice. Unfortunately he didn't. The thieving bastards. They just crimped, cut the lines & pulled up three outside units nice & clean. The video shows their white P/U truck pulled up & two guys doing the work. Couldn't see clearly on the outside security cams what was on the side of the truck but I'm sure to the other business it looked like any other service truck.7mm |
| I did a report for a Theft by Taking here in Central GA. Well, the owner of the business noticed some misc. scrap metal missing each week behind his business. So, he put up $60 deer cameras and it took several pictures of the suspect. It was turned over to Det. But, we got the tag number, vehicle description, and pictures of the suspect. Just a cheap route to go I guess. |
