I'm surprised they're still legal in the UK, especially considered how the receiver is still intact(in the U.S, deactivated guns are required to have their receivers torch-cut). How have they not been banned yet? Is there any truth to the stories of deactivated guns being used by criminals?

Plenty I believe.

Actually current deactivation legislation is pretty stringent with SMG's and assault rifles as they're pretty much butchered and welded up solid.

Older (pre-95?) is pretty marginal, and these are what you want....alegedly

I had some shotguns deactivated about a year ago and there is no way that they could ever be reactivated!
