Wanted to warn ya'll that there is a thief out there using the number 866-712-7753 and labeling charges to your card from "Apple iTunes Store CA". Ended up taking $400 before my wife caught it.. which really sucks becuase I'm in Afghanistan and can't do dick about it other than report it and get it back in a week's time. thankfully the bills are paid but I wasn't getting paid to be here this month just yet so I got a regular paycheck, needless to say that wiped us out.
Watch your stuff. |

We check ours every day. I've found classified ads in Alabama charged to mine, and my wife has had some itunes charges that weren't hers, and more recently, several small charges from the Loves truck stop just over the border in South Carolina. I each case, the charges we small, less than $10 total, but we were able to cancel the cards before more damage was done.
Checking every day is simple, effective insurance. We also decided to move most of the money from our checking account into a separate account at the same bank. This prevents anyone from cleaning us out through fraudulent use of our bank card/credit card. We have protections, but they can sometimes take a day or two, and this way we have the majority of our money in a non check card account. If we need more money in our checking account for a big purchase or whatever, we can transfer funds as much as we want. But this way if the checking account gets cleaned out and it takes a day or two to straighten it out, we have access to most of our money. Az |

You called the bank right? Normally they will refund your money in full when there is a case of fraud. Yeah but with pending funds they have to let it hit the bank then refund it... basically giving the criminals the money then paying for it out of pocket. |

THanks for the heads up. I will have to verify my itunes transactions on the CC are legit.
Clark Howard discourange you from having a debit card w/ a visa/mc logo on it. It it can be used like a credit card/ w/o having to enter the pin, all someone has to do to clean out your account is take you card to the storea as ID are rarely ever checked. Banks may refund you money in an expedient manner, but they don't have to by law. In the mean time, you could have bounced check fees pile up etc. And you basically have to prove it was fraud while. Whereas w/ a credit card the charge is reverse immediately and there is a $50 liability limit according to fed law and the merchent has to prove their case, not you yours. Ask for an atm/debit card w/o the fake credit card logo. You can still use it at gas pump, grocery store, walmart, all sorts of places that you would be doing your day to day transactions, all w/o the risk of fake credit card fraud. |
