23rd is the start of deer gun Archery started the 1st of October. My old man cussed me because we cut a large limb in front of one of our ladder stands and it twisted coming down and racked the ladder stand. It was the one he was planning on bow hunting out of this week end. He has a cross bow and has even hunted with it yet. It's not like he won't kill enough deer this year.
He's also mad because I may be going to the Philipines on a church relief mission and won't be around to deer hunt (or help him get his deer!) He is a cranky old f*rt. |

I don't have anywhere to hunt so I live my deer hunting seasons vicariously through you guys now...cool pics!! We've lost over 640 acres to hunt in the last two years because of leasing. Our place is small and we have people hunting on us all the time. We have to be out there just to keep them off. Dad once ran a teenager off whose parents own 320 acres close to us. He almost caught him once again but only got his lunch bucket he left in the stand. Dad ate his sandwich and drank his Dr. Pepper, then took the lunch bucket back to his parents house. He told the mother she made good sandwiches and told her that her son forgot his lunch bucket in the deer stand. We don't think we've had him back on the place but you never know for sure. Add up all the relatives that want to hunt that get mad when we say no and there is no way to win. Plus we have dogs running loose on the place. Dad won't shoot them but has talked to the owners numerous times. Their comments are "shoot 'em if they are giving you problems." Our deer are nocturnal as all get out and we just get lucky catching them just before legal shooting times ends or starts. There are no open daylight deer anymore unless you catch a buck running through chasing does. And that seems to be pretty rare with the cameras we have up.

I use to allow people to hunt , since everyone became assholes though and started demanding payment , I cut it off quick. I actually would have people who ask me to hunt my little bit of land and then were leasing large tracts out. I told them hunt your own property.
People are much greedier now then they use to be when I was a kid. |

Yeah, the place I used to hunt belonged to a friends family and it was a really small plot that was surrounded by a couple very large plots. The small plot was the only area left for hundreds of acres with oaks on them so it attracted all the deer. However the owners of the large acreages would "include" the small plot we hunted as part of theirs so we constantly had people telling us that the land we were hunting was part of their lease. It lead to many altercations and a couple that ended up with "leaser's" threatening to shoot anyone on their lease and the guys I was with telling the "leaser's" that if they stepped onto their land armed or even acted like they were going to start trouble that they would be the ones being shot. Sort of took the enjoyment out of hunting but I did get a couple deer so that was cool.
Would be great to have a place to hunt where you don't have to deal with that kind of stuff but unless you own the land that's just about impossible. |

People are just low when it comes to acquiring hunting property. I can't tell you the stories I've heard and the things I've seen that are so full of chicken sh*t as to be unbelievable.
Your best buddy will screw you in a heartbeat if he thinks he can get a big buck off your hunting ground IF he can back stab you. It's sad but that is the way it is anymore. |
Daughter has had the fever she's missed 3 this year. All the bucks in our area have went nocturnal and seem to have went camera shy. Everyday that I had off to hunt the gas company has been back close to where my stand is located and been pulling sucker rod. Plus with all the persimmons and acorns just guessing where to go has been a nightmare. On a high note the poaching has not been to bad this year (for a change). Better not brag it ain't over yet |

I don't have anywhere to hunt so I live my deer hunting seasons vicariously through you guys now...cool pics!! You realize there ARE deer on Public WMAs right?? Pack a tent, coolers and sleepin gear, throw out a deer blind or sit under a tree where you think deer will be n wait. You do know what rubs and scrapes are right? And you do know what deer tracks look like right?? Stop with the boo-hoo-ing and get out there on public land and try killin something besides time. Dam girl, get with it and stop with the poor lil me no place to hunt act. I killed a deer last year deader than a door nail on public land n part of her is still in my freezer and pretty dam tasty. Cant kill deer on the internet, go make it happen. |

That's all well and good but with my medical issues I can't do that kind of stuff. A single trip to the grocery store results in the following 2 to 3 days being stuck in bed because I can't walk. I have to pick and choose my activities very carefully because I pay for them dearly the next several days.

I bagged a skunk with my car once...I chose not to have it mounted. Cost a small fortune at the car wash just so I could continue driving it that night. So far I can tally one cow, two turkeys and two owls. Whoa...ouch. I've seen several car vs cow incidents, they all ended badly for the car/trucks, the cow and usually they people in the car/trucks. I've almost hit deer several times but fortunately nothing bigger than that skunk actually made contact. Did you get your new truck yet? |
