HANDGUN-1 COURSE by Defensive Edge

When:  September 13, 2008

Where:  Princeton, MN

Cost: $175 (Registration available through our website)

The Handgun-1 Course is designed for the novice shooter or remedial training for the more experienced shooter. The handgun is primarily a defensive weapon. Small and easy to conceal, it is often the first choice when selecting a firearm for defense. The handgun is the most difficult to master in comparison to the shotgun, carbine/rifle, or sub-machine gun. If you are going to be relying on a handgun for self-defense, then you better be able to use it properly. Our emphasis is to introduce the Fundamentals of Firearms Safety to the novice, and will teach the skills necessary to properly use the revolver and semi-automatic handgun in a self-defense situation.

Note:  This is not a sit down course, as you will be on the range working from a holster with lots of hands on training.

SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF THIS COURSE QUALIFIES FOR A MINNESOTA PERMIT TO CARRY.

The hands-on course will cover the following:

• Legal aspects of owning, transporting, and using a firearm for self-defense
• Tactics of self-defense
• Proper Stance
• Grip
• Draw Stoke/Presentation/Reholstering
• Sight Alignment/Sight Picture
• Trigger Press
• Reloading
• Malfunctions
• Firearms Safety Issues (range/home/on-off duty)
• Ballistic Issues
• Cleaning and maintenance

Student Equipment Needed:

• Handgun (revolver or semi-automatic)
• Two speed loaders or three magazines & 300rds Ammunition
• Concealment Garment (you will be working from concealment)
• Holster with Thumb break (hip) “no shoulder rigs”
• Hearing and Eye Protection

ETA:  Sorry, I misspoke.  I forgot I have drill that weekend.  Damn, seemed too good to be true.  Finally, a weekend course I really want and I didn't have to work.  Have to keep waiting again.

Inuh,  I have been back in MN for about a year.  I took a lot of time off this time last year and earlier this year and now it is all catching up with me.  Still wanting to make it to Princeton more often.

Glad to see you're back and doing fine...

Too bad you can't make it to the course.  I'm trying to convince one more friend to take this course, but I don't know if they'll have the $$ in time or the motivation.  They want to buy a handgun to keep in their home for self defense, but know little about handguns, legal self defense, or shooting in general.

They're sheltered Edina folks so they didn't think civil disobedience and assault could occur in Minnesota until last week at the RNC!

Nope.  Nobody has ever assaulted another person in Minnesota-Niceville until the RNC...

It might take them a trip or two to the range before they're comfortable with buying their own gun...  I'll try to sell them on G-Lock tupperware as it's beginner friendly and a simple design for the first gun they try.
