I know PT Firearms sell a metric ton of those things, and I might be buying one in a few weeks. Looks like decent equipment.

Would like to hear what others say about it also.

Del-Ton donated an entire rifle kit as a prize that was given away at the Roasted Nuts Shoot last summer... I forget who won it (speak up!).

It was a nice package and looked like good stuff - it was more than "entry level" too.

They give a discount to arfcommers, I think you have to e-mail to ask and they "add it to your account" as a permanent thing.

The woman I dealt with in securing that prize was really really nice.  Good people.

I wonder what the discount is, I am looking at them for a complete upper.

Not sure, I think it depends on the item –– modifies prices in cart.

Do me the favor of thanking them for donating to our Wisconsin HTF Shoot...

I saw that thread.  I believe the winning company will be whoever can get me what I want in a reasonable amount of time.  From what I am reading on uppers, some companies are take 60 days to ship

... and it is going to continue to get worse at least through the election and probably after.

Have built several of their kits, no issues.  Lead times vary depending on when you order (i do the bulk during the black friday sale)

Wasn't that NeoPoet aka Jerry that won that or was it Jrpett?

Seems to me it was one of them.

Do a quick search on "Del ton bolt failures".

I have a complete Del-Ton rifle. Bought as a kit and assembled on a Del-Ton lower.

It seems the hammers have a problem with failing. Mine delevoped a nick and started doubling after a short while (like 750 rounds) because the hammer wasn't grabbing the disconnector. Replaced the trigger assembly and all has been GTG since. I am unaware of the bolt failures but am going to google it.

They did have some bad bolts a few years ago, I had one where the lugs got sheared off after around 500rds.  I called Delton and they sent me a new complete BCG after I sent them only the bolt.  Has been fine since then

In short, these are hobbyist kit rifles.
So expect hobbyist kit quality.
I think they fail to meet the TDP on nearly all points, (that we know of).

Lack of true 5.56mm chamber.
Wrong barrel steel.
Wrong bolt steel.
Lack of shot peening bolt.
Wrong height FSB.
Commercial diameter receiver extension made from extruded aluminium with rolled threads.
I understand they are testing the bolt with Magnaflux, are they doing a high pressure proof test? The MPI would be useless without it.

This is just off the top of my head.
With their KNOWN quality control issues, I think I would pass on them.
Especially when a complete Colt 6920 upper with Magpul furniture can be had for $550.

I don't know too much about these uppers, but they seem to spec out correctly:

95% of the people here, include you, are "hobbyists"

For the price, they do what they need to do.

i've got a 20" DTI upper on a dpms lower and i havn't had a single problem with it

I think what was meant: Delton is being compared to Model 1 and M&A whereas the quality is hit and miss (my experience with them years ago) unlike a larger company like Colt.

I have not bought from either company for years because of it.

I think it would be best to inspectn the part(s) before buying it if you can. I suggest this with any first purchase with a company (without a track record) you have not dealt with before.

I've got one built off a full kit, and an upper on another build.  Busted the first bolt in my complete rifle, but they replaced it.  Neither guns are bad, but they aren't anything to write home about either. You get what you pay for with them.

A Del-ton is way more likely to choke in a high round count class or practice session than say a BCM or Colt.

Can't argue with you there, but the Braco or Colt are also cost 60%-100% more.

You know the OP, can you honestly say he'd be better off spending the extra $$ for a Colt or Noveske?

Noveske? Nope.
Colt? They don't make a dissipator that I know of.

The PSA seems to spec out, if the specs hold true, it should function reliably.
The Del-ton kits I've experienced... not so much.

I see the OP is taking advantage of his discount at Midway.
PSA would not be an option then.
If the upper is a flat top I would suggest buying a longer front sight post as the Del-ton kits do not use the correct height FSB.

EDIT: Hey! Post 1911!

Good luck Mark!

Mark, One of my concerns is the rifle length gas system on a 16" barrel pertaining to  gas port size, gas volume required to cycle the action etc. If we have time ill talk to you about it tomorrow if you would like.

A dissipator looks like rife length but it really is a low pro carbine gas system under the handguards, the FSB only functions as a sight. That's the advantage, longer sight radius with a shorter barrel and no worries about the gas system.

Not all company's dissiaptors are the same, according to deltons website "16 Dissipator Custom Upper, with standard/rifle length gas system".

There wouldn't be enough dwell time to fully pressurize the gas system.
Unless they opened the gas port up quite a bit.

It is done on Mk18 (10.3") uppers.

Looking at teh site, DT's dissy's do use a rifle length system, which seems kinda hokey to me.

Yep, that was me. The guy who never wins anything. Just when I thought that all I held was another loosing ticket, hawzwood announced that there was a surprise second chance winner. Totally blew me away. Everything but the lower receiver. I'm  extremely happy with it, thanked Del-Ton in their forum, assembled it, and shot it at the zombie shoot. I'll be at the Frozen Nuts II on the 10th with the Slidefire stock on it. Everyone is free to fire it up with whatever ammo they have.

I would definitely be interested in running a mag with that stock.  I've been on the fence a number

They have them for AK's too.  I've been thinking a good combo is the AK version with a cheap 5.45 AK and of course tons of cheap surplus ammo.

I put a Del-Ton upper on my Lauer's Custom Weaponry  Lower from Chippewa Falls Wisconsin.  The rifle has run flawlessly.  This was a father and  daughter bonding project, my daughter built the lower.  Saying that brings a tear to my eye, I'm so proud!

OP, it wouldn't be too difficult to build your own Dissipator. Olympic Arms sells a 16" barrel with low profile carbine gas system with sight tower at rifle length.
