My mother in law inherited a 5 shot revolver. It is a small frame "break open" style revolver. The only markings on the pistol is a "US" at the top of each plastic/bakelite handgrips and the Sn 29361 on the bottom of the trigger guard. I have tried various internet sites, but I don't even know who made this revolver and when. I told her I want to buy it and not to sell it. In order to do that I need to know make and model. Can anybody help me out?

Thanks a bunch. This was a huge help. Now if I can narrow down the date I might not need to have to get a pistol permit.

IIRC, Don't you always need a permit to purchase in NJ for any handgun?

If it's pre-1898 the transfer could take place in another state and be legal. I'm assuming that's what he meant.
