Which range/location, and any sidearm requirement?

I'm very glad to have you bringing your training up here and will be checking work schedule on Monday to determine my availability.

I'm just the slug helping to put together the class,Bro.
Sorry I didn't make that more clear.

I'm bringing a sidearm and about 200 rounds of ammo for it.

You may email Larry directly and ask him if you would like.

The range is at the Calverton Shooting range.

Thanks for your interest.

Well here's a problem:

Carbine II - Intermediate Level
Requirements are same as Carbine I. No waivers from any other instructors granted. Review of topics in Carbine I and more advanced shooting on the move and skill drills including barricade and weak side shooting. Courses of fire to be used are based on skill evaluation and development. Shooter will leave the course with a firm grasp on strengths and weaknesses and drills to help themselves improve. Ammo requirement is 1000 rounds.

Carbine I class requires a Basic Carbine from his or another accredited school:

Carbine I – Introductory Level
For shooters who have had at least a basic carbine class either from Vickers Tactical or any other accredited instructor. Topics covered include basic carbine topics and the following: malfunction drills and shooting on the move as well as transitions. Introduction to timed fire drills and evaluations based on class skill level. Nightfire will depend on time of year and range restrictions. Class equipment is the same as the carbine basic with the addition of a weapon mounted flashlight and service pistol (minimum 9mm para caliber). Ammo requirement is 1000 rounds plus 150 rounds pistol.

Now if I am reading this right, then you will have to have been through his Carbine I class.  Has anyone been through Carbine I?

Hi Vinnie.
Good point.

You do need some sort of acredited class prior to taking Carbine II.
It doesn't neccesarily have to be one of Larrys.
Military training can suffice as well.

This is not a basic carbine class.

To all those interested, please PM or email me your military background and/or prior training classes you've attended.

Some guys have already done this and all have checked out so far.

Thanks for your interest.

I had an opportunity to train with LAV earlier this year. He is an outstanding instructor and boy can he shoot! I'm interested in the class but will not be able to decide until later this summer.

A few questions. What are the legalities in bringing post 94 "assault" rifle, magazines and handguns into NY?

Thanks,

Mike

I had the same question, and the NRA state law index didn't look very favorable.  It looks like cas has responded...anyone else have anything to add?

Thank you. LAV needs a "heads up." He usually shoots a H&K 416 w/ a 10" barrel. That would appear to be a problem in NY.

There are legal ways to get SOME temporary exemptions for certain events, matches and I'd assume classes. HOW someone would go about doing that, and WHO you have to be, I wouldn't know where to even begin to start asking.

The state law cited on the NRA page lists exemptions for NRA-sanctioned events...

I seem to miss all the Basic Carbine Courses in the area. There have been a few intermediate and advanced courses around lately but no Basic (that I know of.)

ETA: It would be great if LAV would do a 2 day Carbine 1 course here prior to the 2 so everyone could be in! I know Tactical Response did exactly that last year and it was a hit. Unfortunately I had to work the whole four days so I missed it!

+1  Maybe LAV or somebody else would jump on this and help us out.  I am sure there is enough interest to get a class together.

I'm not sure if anyone saw my other post but I'm taking a Basic TAC Carbine Course with FIRE INST in PA on AUG 11-13. I checked with LAV and it meets the requirements for the course in OCT. The class in AUG is Exactly 318 miles from NYC and I will be driving if anyone is interested. The course in AUG is $335, which is a steal. You can check them out in the Training section of this website. I will also be attending the LAV course in OCT here in LI.

So far, so good.
Some folks have responded they would like to bring a buddy or too with them, if that happens it will be filled fairly fast.

I WOULD NOT miss an opportunity to train with Larry Vickers!!

His calender is filling up rapidly and if you snooze you may loose on getting in one of his classes in the near future.
