| I'm moving to Denver from Wisconsin and was reading through the assault weapons ban in the city/county. Just want to clarify, are AR's not allowed at all, or just no magazines over 20 rounds? Also, if a shotgun is able to hold 8 rounds, but you put a plug in it so it holds 6 or less, is it meet the requirements? |
| From what I was reading, it was only in the city and county of Denver. Mostly seemed like a restriction on round count, but if I understood it correctly, you can't own things such as an AK or AR unless you owned them and lived within the city/county prior to the law going into effect in 2003 and you have them permitted. |

Assault weapons are defined in Denver as any weapon with a detachable magazine capacity of 21 or more rounds. AR's are allowed as long as the magazine does does not have a 21 or more round capacity.
Section 38-130 |
| Just don't move with in the city and county of denver! There are many comunities near Denver that are gun friendly. Plus the city bleeds blue and nothing else. There are great communites south of Denver like Littleton, Englewood, Highlands Ranch (more expensive but nicer area). I live in Castle Rock which is about 30 miles from downtown but it is all highway to get there. With no rush hour trafic, it takes 30 minutes to get to the heart of down town |

On the Denver line to the west is Jefferson county = CCW, MG's, no restriction on mags/wespons. Denver has always been screwed...anyone old enough here to remember ...the potenial hollow-pont bullet ban that almost past in1970's...and they were looking at the DPD as well. Had a security gurad lic then...the allowed pistol round was 158gr lead RN .38 Special. For us and the cops.
Knee jerk reaction from some in the minority community. |

Has anyone ever heard of anybody getting busted under this law? I would assume this is more of a secondary offense type of law as in if found during a search of property or person as a result of having comitted another offense. I doubt this would be a primary and only charge if found in possession of just a 21+ round magazine (no weapon), although technically it is against the law to do so according to the statute

Denver puts a ban on my second amendemnt right but they make it perfectly legal to own and smoke weed. What a town! Don't go there. There's a reason that I told the HH6 that we would NOT live in Denver when we moved out here. Screw them and their "Hometown Clause" or WTF it's called that allows them to get away with it. Move to Centennial, Parker, Highlands is okay (but too pricey for what's out there if you ask me), and a few other towns outside of Denver. I love Parker because there's always farmers markets going on the weekends, there's the BBQ stuff out here (and you've gotta try Big Jims BBQ on Parker road and Longs Way!!!), and there's no crime out here besides jay walkers and the occasional car break in. -Sleeper |

My zip is going to be 80247. The only way I can see getting in trouble with this is like it was said above, secondary to some other type of violation or search going on. So I'll just have to behave when I take the toys out of hiding.
I have an 80247 zip code. Denver address, Aurora post office, and Arapahoe county. Aurora police patrol my area but I'm kinda in a grey area not Denver and 2 blocks away from Aurora. |

I'm asking out of pure confusion b/c I thought HR was it's own 'city' per se. Thanks. -SS |

DougCo patrols Highlands Ranch. Right next door (to the east) is Lone Tree which has it's own pd & is in Douglas County. The Highlands is a neighborhood in NW Denver as funkymonkey states. Denver is "The city and county of", city limits=county limits.
I'd also say to stay out of Arapahoe County-sheriff is RINO, d.a. is a nut job, APD chief is former nypd and has the typical east coast anti-2a & firearm attitude. Realize it's too late for now but when it comes time to buy look west or further south. Sounds like you might be unincorporated Arapahoe? Jeffco is best bet going. |
| You can be super close to downtown but still be out of the city and county limits in Wheat Ridge, which is basically just west of Sheridan. Alot of the neighborhoods are zoned for 2 horses and have large wooded lots. Best of both worlds if you ask me. House prices between 230-330 for a decent nice house with some updates. I'd look there for a house. |
