Looking at renting a condo in Destin on the Gulf... Bringing wife and three kids. Never been. Any input? Looks like the water and sand are beautiful. Going in mid April. Thanks for any info you can provide. Cheers, |

McGuire's is a great place(good luck getting in on a weekend/Friday night), the ribs are amazing. You cant miss it, coming from the west on 98 its just over the bridge on the North side. Dont forget a $1 bill either.
If your military you can rent a boat from Hurlburt Field's Marina for a good price. If not military rent a boat anyway and take a trip out to Crab Island, thats a blast on the weekend. So you dont sound like a tourist asking around, Crab Island is not really an island, its just a shallow spot under the Destin bridge, take a peek on a Saturday and you will see what im talking about. Listen up on the weeknights, you can hear the gunships out on Eglin Range, its the sound of freedom  .

Thanks very much for the info. Not military. Biggest regret of my life, honestly. Awesome wife and three great kids. Now into my 40s all good, job stable...but I still regret not signing up. Staying at Islanders (?) condos on Gulf Shore. Any info on other beaches attractions and such for kids would be great also. Looking at the air museum at Elgin AFB? Worth a quick trip? Cheers! |

On second thought you probably wont be able to hear the gunships all the way from Destin, Ive heard them as far as the boardwalk in Fort walton, but havent tried from Destin.
I havent been to the armament museum yet, but I am planning on doing so next week. As far as attractions go, I think beaches are beaches, cant say I found one more special than another. To the east of Destin are a couple of great shopping spots. Silver Sands shopping area is closer, its right next to Bass Pro shops. Further east in Sandestin, is the Sandestin outlets mall. My favorite place to eat is "Tijuana Flats" in Fort Walton Beach. Wonderful Tex Mex, great service. Worth a trip, you wont regret it, well maybe you will because they dont have any in MI. |

When are you going to be hear?
Destin has some of the best fishing in the states, its like 60 a person to go out. What type of food do you like? Do you just want to have a really nice dinner with the wife? If so check out commanders palace, but get revervations and dress nice, its about 75-100 a person. Jet skis can be rented just about everywhere they are around 75 per hour. I will post more when I'm not at work |
But maybe I can sneak away with my 11 yr old and leave the wife and two daughters at the beach!|
I enjoy Fudpuckers and Hogs Breath when I am in the area. The kids will probably enjoy all the alligators at Fudpuckers.
