This was in the paper today.....Think I will go down there and try to intercept the good stuff before the cops do.

Detroit  –– The police department will hold its first gun buyback event of the year today as the city grapples with an increase in murders of young black men over the last several years.

From 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., people can bring broke and functioning firearms for cash to Second Ebenezer Church, 14601 Dequindre. Police will pay from $25 for a gun that doesn't work to $50 for a gun that does to $100 for two or more guns. Cash will be handed out on the spot.

"We have to get guns out of circulation," Interim Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee Jr. said. "We don't know for sure what these guns would be used for, but we know they won't be used for crimes."

If there is any doubt, how do they propose to test if the guns work or not?

Will you be required to fire a few shots in the air for the extra $25?

They use to call this the crime of fencing and receiving stolen goods but when the Police buy them "back" with our money its called fighting crime.

You could theoretically get more than you paid for say a Daisy bb gun.  Bring them the functional one and get $50 for it.

These cash for gun scams are a joke.  Daley did that in Chicago and it was nothing but a dog and pony show.

I did go. Was the only white face in the crowd.  They were offering $25 for broken guns and $50 for working guns which is half what they said in the paper. Most of the guns  I saw were cheap POS pistols and old POS shotguns and 22 rifles.  There were a few AKs and others when I was there. I tried to buy a really nice Win 97 off an old lady but she wouldn't sell even though I offered here $150 more than she could get from the cops.  I chose not to sell the junkers I had.   I didn't stay around long enough since the cops were getting a little perturbed of me hanging around looking at the guns.  Overall the thing was a farce.
