Soo I know this isn't a legal forum and whatnot but figured this was worth asking here..
I have a 1.5yo English Bulldog, my FIL has an older dog. Anyhow my dog has been at his house the last few days while my new backyard fence is being built (completed today). My wife went over there to pick him up and have dinner. Apparently Chaos ensued and the two dogs got into it. Well my FIL apparently tried to use his hands to break up the scrap. My wife called me up here and said its not a pretty sight. #1 Other dog may or may not be headed out as they are waiting on the vet to get there. #2 Father in Law has bite on hand. Heres my question. I am pretty sure they are going to come for my bully for the rabid test. Its unclear if he or the other dog bit my FIL. Am I correct to assume this? Do I have rights on this as far as keeping him in my home while waiting results or quarantine somewhere, or? Pretty sure the vet bills my tab and possibly the trip to the ER if my FIL chooses to go in. Is this something homeowners insurance would cover? |

The city of Keller let me do a "home quarantine" after getting up to date vaccination records from my Vet.
It varries from city to city. Goodluck..... edit: someone I know lives in Ft.Worth city limits and all though his dogs vaccinations were up to date, the city still quarintined his dog, can't remember if it was 14 or 30 days |

Lots of "what?" here...
Is your FIL a prick? Otherwise, nobody should be coming to get either dog and no insurance or legal matters will ensue. Your homeowners usually cover dog bits, at your home. Your insurance is not going to touch your dog at someone else's home. FIL homeowners may cover any medical costs since it was at his place. I doubt this is worth filing a claim over. Dog should already have a rabies shot, so don't know that was brought up either, unless... |

I lived in NM for a few years and had an incident at my friends house. His dog got excited and jumped on a little girl and nipped her. No blood, just a little nip and a freaked out little girl. The dog meant no harm, he just got excited. The girls mother got scared and took the girl to the hospital, about half an hour later an officer arrived and said the Dr. called him, by law to come and investigate. Officer wasn't a jerk or anything, he just said the dog had to stay quarantined at the house for 48 hours while he wrote up a report, verified rabies vaccine, and made sure the dog was registered with the city (stupid local law). The officer said since the dog was obviously not aggressive in nature, and several witnesses said it was just a accident with the dog playing, he didn't need to take the dog with him to quarantine. After a few days, nothing happened, no fines paid, no follow ups on the dog or anything like that.
As long as your FIL doesn't press charges and your dog is up to date on rabies, I don't see your situation going any differently to be honest. It sounds like the scrap was between the two dogs, not your dog being aggressive towards your FIL. That being said, I'm no lawyer and this experience was in another state. But you're probably fine. |

Update of sorts....
Arrived back home before my wife today and there was a yellow note from animal control on my door. Listing us as owners down to the dogs age and name. Anyhow I called the number and the lady said I had 24 hours to Quarantine the dog at a vet of my choosing or they would pick him up and either charge me to do it or euthanize him. FIL went to the doctor today and they did the report etc. He was able to pick his dog up today but as I pointed out to the animal control lady it is unclear which dog actually bit him. The bite consisted of a top/bottom small hole on his wrist which I wouldn't have gone to the doc for. The dog is up to date on his shots. Gotta ride it out for 10 days in puppy prison. Dogbite happened out in the county, I live in the city! |

My Stella (English Bull Terrier) and her idiot part chow locked jaws in a fight. I got bit accidentally when breaking them apart. Just happened to be going to see my doc the next day. He asked if the dog "attacked" me, or if it was just the heat of the moment. I explained and he cleansed the wound and put some butterflies on it. Didn't report anything because the bite was incidental, not an attack. Go to the doctor that reported this and ask him if he even asked such questions. Or just be sure and send him a list of all the people you're advising to never use his medical services. The doctor is fucking stupid |

I got bit a few years ago breaking up my own two dogs (jealous over bacon). Luckily it was not serious enough to have to go to the doctor, it just hurt like a mother f-er. I learned that is not the way to break things up... keep your hands away from snapping dogs...

Couple questions. 1. Why would city get involved? they are required to get involved 2. Why would your dog be quarantined and your FIL dog not? 3. Are your dogs shots up to date? 4. Is your FIL a dick and your worried about a potential lawsuit? Possibility of rabies is so small (especially with dogs at home) it's laughable why it's used as an excuse. I guess it's the same mentality people who won't swim in the ocean because they are afraid a shark will eat them. ever think to yourself why the chances are so small here as apposed to countries with little or no animal control or rabies control laws ] http://www.who.int/rabies/Global_Rabies_ITH_2008.png |
