So I went to Bullseye in Cumming to toss some lead. I wore my tinted/shaded glasses this time. Didn't work out so well indoors (too dark) so I took them off. No big deal for me as I have done so with other guns but this time it was while pumping the AK. Pulled the trig and got an eye full of shit. ![]()

When I was a kid my grandfather showed me how to work and aim a 410, a 22 rifle and a ruger mk1 pistol. That was it, no hearing or eye protection. Luckily I didn't have any splashback but I have the tinnitus of a 60-year old machine operator from the industrial age. Years of Metallica, Rush, Def Leppard, Deep Purple, Scorpions, Iron Maiden, Slayer and other concerts didn't help.
Ear and eye protection should be a devotion for every shooter out there. I keep a pair of clear shooting glasses in my range bag. |

i shoot rifles left handed.....and used to never wear eye protection up at WMAs.....talk about getting face-full.
usually just small stuff, but at the end of shooting, my face was noticeably a different color! If im shooting completely outdoors (like out in the open) i wont wear ear protection. I wear my Oakleys but thats it. Honestly, driving my old motorcycle or even my 280z was louder than shooting in the open. The bang of a gun is a lot softer when theres nothing around you for the sound to bounce off of. If its inside or under cover for the sound to re-verb off of, thats a completely different story! Inside shooting ears and eyes are both a must! One of Joes handgun matches i forgot to put my ears in and ran the stage and honestly didnt even notice it untill someone mentioned when i got through. |

OK, ..... What the hell was that / why only my AK? Splashback was mentioned.... so what's the deal? Rounds coming back and hitting you???? 50BMG ![]() Video |

Shoot a 50 cal into a U-tube maybe ballistic eyewear won't help.
I wear certified safety eyeware at the range and while driving. Ever think what those thousands of tiny glass shards are going to do to your eye if you have an accident in your car? Hearing is important. Eyesight is extremely important. |

As in it just keeps building up until your sensors break down. One morning you'll wake up and be hearing "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE" and it won't stop for the rest of your life. There is no treatment and no cure. You've been warned. |

400 to actually answer your quesrion the design of the AK's top cover will allow more blow back to come in your face. Throw a suppressor on any gun and the blowback increases.
Did it happen on one round or all rounds? If it's all rounds you need to check your gass supply. Make sure the gas tube isn't blocked. If its a new gun (and a century build) you might want to make sure the barrel is actually drilled for the gas tube. If it was only one round it was probably a bad round. |

Thanks for the info - I took one shot and got blasted in the eye so I have no idea if it is repeatable. It's a Romanian model. How do you "check your gas supply"? |

| Tinnitis sucks. Losing your eyesight sucks even more. Everyone shooting, indoors or out, should wear eye and ear protection all the time. It only takes one time for eye protection to pay off. Hearing damage is so gradual you don't even notice it's happening. Ear protection is cheap insurance so that you'll be able to hear your grandkids when they talk to you. |

I don't know why there are so many replies that have nothing to do with your thread...... Field strip it make sure the piston it attached! ( should wiggle a little) Take off the upper HG. Look in the tube make sure it's free of anything. Then look in the bent part where the gas tube connects to the barrel. A dark room and a flashlight will help. That part is pinned so the only way to get it off is a hammer and a punch. Also make sure the piston moves freely. Romanian is the model but who assembled it? Century build are really bad reps. Wouldn't suprise me if they used a virgin barrel and forgot to drill for the gas tube. Essentially you would have a blow back operated instead of a gas operated. More thank likely if this was your first shot what ever it was has been shot out. Or it was the ammo. Wear some real eye protection and shoot it again. When I am firing a rifle for the first time I just strike up a conversation with the guy next to me. Then I offer to let him shoot "my new bad ass toy". Always works. |

Youch, I never thought about not having a gas hole at all. Blowback could cycle an AK? Like I said most of the crud I get in my face is my fault. |

All those guys deer hunting don't wear hearing protection either... now what did you say? I shoot four or five deer a year without hearing protection, I always wear it any other time, even weed eating. My hearing is tested every six months and is pretty good considering 15+ pressurization cycles a week. |

Probably kick like a mother though. 400 don't let it scare you. Safety check it and run it again. If you don't want it I take donations! |
