In NM your vehicle is an extension of your home, you can carry concealed without a CCW as long as you are in the car, if you get out you either need a CCW(NV recipricates with NM so you are fine) or carry it via open carry.  You can carry loaded.  No magazine restrictions or anything else.

One thing to keep in mind is that if you have it on your dashboard or other place in plain open sight it could be considered brandishing a firearm and thats bad juju.  If you have it with you have it on you and you are fine.

There is also no need to notify the law that you have a firearm on you.  Only time I would is if I were being removed from the vehicle and thus by me stepping out of the vehicle that would put me in violation of the law for having it concealed without a CCW.  Anything outside that you are better off saying nothing as saying something would most likely cause more problems than if you just kept your mouth shut.

Your partner that is LEO needs to carry his badge and credentials if he wishes to carry concealed.(This is what I am told by Santa Fe, though I have no experience with this part of your questions, the other I have plenty of experience with)

That should do it.  Enjoy the drive through and safe travels to you and your partner.

Watch your speed.

Various LE agencies are conducting DWI crackdowns now, including checkpoints.

I travel quite a bit and have recently seen a sharp increase in speed enforcement on various major highways, and they are using aircraft.

You can be in the middle of nowhere, see a lit up cruiser approach from either direction 3-4 miles away, and you're gonna get tagged, even though you  slowed to the speed limit when the cop was still a mile away.

Apparently, they do not exceed 100mph, which makes the chase incredibly drawn out when the closure rate is around 10mph.
