I heard that when you take a CPL class you need a holster.  If this is true what type would you recomend?  Also.  Is Michigan a State where it limits were on your body you can carry?  I.e. no ankle, only waiste band.

It vary's from class to class.  I took one class where you needed a holster and I took a different one where we'd just lay the pistol on a table in front of us.  Our pistols went from the case to the table.  The instructor of the class should tell you what to bring but you should bring a holster anyway, just in case.

I don't beleive there are any restrictions on what part of the body you carry your pistol.

10-4.  I figured I would talk to the person conducting classes before I go, but I was just wondering.  If I get any more Christmas money I'm thinking of buying a holster.  Later I'll take the class.  I'll have to save up for that.  My fience said after all the wedding bills are paid then I can take the class.  That means I have a while to go.

From what I've gathered it all depends where you do your shooting part of the class. Myself and everyone else I know that shot at an indoor style range had to follow all range rules. They dont like you playing quick draw inside and especially dont want to see that 1911 coming out of a shoulder holster and doing a 180 degree sweep just under the guys nose next to you. My other friends that shot at outdoor ranges with knock down targets and lots of room for safety had their weapons holstered. Definetly check with your instructor before going and leave the shoulder, ankle or SOB holster at home. Your in a training class not a 3 gun shoot and instructors want everything straight ahead. If you saw some of the people in my class you would understand why.
In regards to buying a holster a lot will depend on the firearm you decide carry and how you decide to carry it. If you have never carried before you may find some options you think look really cool are very unpractical and uncomfortable. The only restriction in regards to how or where you carry is that concealed means concealed not the lower half of the paddle holster showing under your untucked shirt tail. The bigger the gun you choose to carry the less options you have on how to carry it. The main thing is that you feel comfortable while carrying and the holster you choose propery retains the weapon you put in it. Put the gun in the holster and hold it upside down. If it falls out thats whats going to happen if you body ever goes into a position where your gun would be able to slide out and end up laying on the side walk. This stuff will actually happen. Dont go with coolness talk to a professional and find out what works. Find out who supplies the LEO's in your area and talk to them and  then make sure it's comfortable for you.
After trying several different guns and holsters I ended up with a glock g23 with night sights and its usally carried in the SOB in a desantis holster which depending where you put the belt clip can either be carried outside or inside the belt. In colder weather I'll throw the shoulder holster on sometimes. Colder weather means more clothes which means you can hide more.

The classes I've been involved with stress using what you will have for EDC. In addition to teaching students how to fight with a gun we teach them how to carry it. You can't do that unless you have proper carry gear.

Bring a gun, holster, at least two mags, a mag carrier, and a good belt (saw one guy try to hang a paddle holster on sweat pants).

Thanks ya'll.  Just to be on the safe side I'll have a holster when I take the class.  The gun I'll be carrying is a S&W Model 60 with a 3" barrel.  Its a nice 5 shot revolver.  I'm wanting a Fist IWB holster for it.  I had a IWB holster from Fist for my S&W Model 13.  I liked it a lot.  It concealed my 4" barrel 6 shooter real nice.  The only reason I wont use that set up is because of Michigans whole pistol registraion thing.  I left all my handguns that were bought privately down with family.
Down in Alabama its alot easier to get a CPL.

If your class is anything like mine, then it was a 2 parter.  Friday night was all class time, instructor didn't want to even see any guns till Saturday and then told us to leave them in the car until it was time to go get them for the range time.  YMMV for your class.  Best thing bring it in and leave it in the trunk.

Even your private sale pistols from AL can be registered, you just have to take them to your local PD and get them on a green card.

The private sale pistols are down South because they have been "lost" in in the system.  They have passed many hands privately and would be hard to trace to the current owners.  They are my backups if for a strange reason the country starts confiscating guns.

I know.  I'm paraniod.
