Last time I was at H&H they told me you are required to show ID to buy ammo. I asked since when and he said "since always". Ok, I know I've bought ammo MANY times without showing my DL. When I was much younger they asked but I chalked it up to being close to the age limit so no big deal but there's no way I'm close to that age anymore and in a world where your identification can be "stolen" in an instant I don't show my ID to anyone I don't absolutely have to. It bugged me when he told me that but now it's just eating at me like crazy. Is it really a legal requirement to have to show your ID or DL to buy ammo in Oklahoma or anywhere else?
I suspect demanding ID for ammo is just another way for companies to get your personal information. After they are done with it they sell their list of people's info to companies that use it for whatever so-called "legal" purposes and from there it's sold from one scammer to another for who knows what nefarious purpose. Unless it's absolutely required to show ID for ammo I'm not doing it anymore. I've had my information stolen twice in the last two years and let me tell you it sucks so now I don't show anything unless it's required by law. |

I can remember being asked to show ID when purchasing ammo; I can also remember being denied being sold ammo when I didn't show ID.
iirc that was at tg&y, target and walmart back in the old days I can also remember the old fred baker's store had a sign on the door that said "no one under 18 allowed without being accompanied by guardian" orsomesuchshitwording. |

I don't buy much ammo with the exception of 22 rimfire, I bought quite a bit last year looking for one that would function well in my 22 LR AR upper, they are notoriously picky about ammo. I don't recall ever being asked to show ID to buy ammo, I bought at least 2 bricks of 22 on different trips at Bass Pro and don't remember being asked for ID, of course it could be that its just a memory problem. ![]() |

its definitely not a law (if it was a law, wouldn't ALL retailers HAVE to do it?), just a store policy, and they can set any policy they wish.
i can understand checking ID for age, but not recording data. and they definitely sell your info to third parties. i gave a made up name and my work address and junk mail for that name started appearing. again, its their ball and they can play it anway they like.. |

lol...that's profiling and profiling is wrong!
Yeah, someone wants to see my ID for ammo they can just keep their boolits. I did buy a gun from a guy once who asked to see my ID to prove I was an Oklahoma resident so I covered all my info except my picture, my name and the Oklahoma seal on it. That was good enough for him and it was ok with me but these businesses who now demand not only to see your ID but copy the info into their computer won't get my business anymore. It's bad enough H&H and Heartland make you give them your DL just to shoot at their range. There's no law that requires that. Outdoor ranges don't make you show them your ID to shoot. I'm starting to become one of those anti-establishment nuts lol. |
A while back at Walmart, I was asked for ID to buy some 9mm. I asked why.... They said you had to be 21 to buy handgun ammo, and was it for a handgun or rifle? I replied it was for neither. The poor clerk had no,idea so the supervisor came over and said it had to be for one of those. I replied it was for a machine gun! . No I'd was ever shown! |
| If they've already got your personal info on file they just ask for your name and pull up your "account". I went to buy a mag for my 1911and the guy asks for my name and I tell him. He checks his computer and says "You're not in the computer, I need to see your ID". I'm thinking to myself why TF does he need my ID to buy a magazine and so I asked him if I was required to show my ID for any purchase and he said "Yes, we have to have you in our system before we can sell you anything".I kind of just stood there looking at the guy in disbelief. Then I said well you have my roommates info in your computer can I just go through that? He said "yeah, we can do that" so I just bought the magazine like that. It just blows my mind they force you to give them your personal information, that is much more important to keep private these days, just to buy one of their products. They can keep their products, I've got no problems buying elsewhere. More people should start telling stores "no way, you don't need my private or personal information to make a sale". Seriously...why do they need it? They have your full name, your address, your birth date, your height/weight, drivers license number, credit card information...now imagine what someone can do with that kind of information. So after your info is sold to marketing companies who then sell it to the next scumbag in line and so on, it's pretty scary. I've had my info end up in the hands of people who used it illegally to make purchases from my banking information, TWICE in two years. I'm a very careful person about protecting my information and shred everything. So where are they getting the information? From unscrupulous businesses who sell your info to third party companies or individuals. |

I often give the zip code askers the number 89044 just for giggles and to skew their data.
If you have bought a gun at H&H your info is definitely in their point of sale computer. It is my understanding that they can pull this up and tell what you have bought. There was a HUGE thread about this on some other forum but I forget all the details. |

I do this at sonic when it asks for a zip... 90210 is always handy. |

I've never had a Sonic ask for my zip code but I think Bed, Bath and Beyond used to do that...I'm gonna use 90210 too if anyone asks lol.
I like H&H, I go fairly often but I'm not a fan of their must show ID for buying a .50 cent doodad just so they can get your personal information into their computer system. Kiss my butt...I'll just buy it elsewhere. My BFF has her info already in it from gun buys in the past so they just ask her name and pull up her account whenever she buys something. Now obviously you gotta provide that information if you're buying a gun, that's the law but saving that information on their system? That's not right. What about someone who's never bought a gun there but wants to buy a holster or a rifle sling or a bucket of dehydrated cheeseburgers? They require you to hand over your ID so they can save your personal info in their system, that's just wrong. I realize it's their store and they can make their policy however they like as long as it's legal but being legal and being right are sometimes not the same thing. If you don't like it then you don't have to buy your dehydrated cheeseburgers there and as much as I like H&H I'll buy mine elsewhere (hypothetically of course, dehydrated cheeseburgers sound gross). It's not just H&H, there are more and more businesses that are starting to do the same thing. Fortunately they don't require your ID for onion burgers and fries yet lol. I wish I could get an ID with B.S. info on it like Name: Skru Yu Birth date: 05-00-2006 Address: 6969 South FU street. Height: 4' 13" Weight: 9 Stone Hair Color: Varies Eyes: 2 and have it look totally legit so when some business says they need my ID information in order to make purchases I can give it to them. |

According to my dad, back in the old days, not only were you required to show ID to buy ammo, but they recorded your info for all ammo purchases. Then along came the FIrearm Owner's Protection Act of 1986 and it put an end to the requirement to record personal info for purchasing ammo (and brought with it the 1986 Machinegun Ban).
Wal-Mart won't sell rifle ammo to anyone under 18 or handgun ammo to anyone under 21. I've never had to show my ID, but I have been asked for my date of birth buying ammo at Wal-Mart before. I have been asked for ID at Wal-Mart when buying spray paint. I've never been asked for ID buying ammo anywhere else (gun shows, gun stores, etc.) either, even when buying handgun ammo. If someone told me I was required by law to show my ID to purchase ammo, I'd demand they show me the law. If they couldn't do that (they can't, BTW) and stood their ground on the issue, I'd make sure they knew they'd cost themselves a sale and walk. |

said the Reg said to , new guy . What you have to be 21 to buy Ammo ?
