New in town. Does anyone know of an outdoor pistol/rifle range in RTP? I know of the Durham Outdoor or Gun club or whatever but they only allow shotguns and the fees are a little steep.
Thanks in advance! JAMES |

In RTP proper there is the dcwc Durham County Wildlife club. There are primarily a shotgun club but they do have a pistol Tuesday event. You can't shoot big rifles (30 cal)but there is some small bore stuff on the pistol range.

Durham County Wildlife Club does have a pistol range. It's outdoor but covered. Only rifles allowed are .22 rimfire. Non members can shoot as a guest of a club member during open hours only Saturady 11-3 and Sundays 1-5. Open hours won't begin until March 1 http://www.dcwc.info/pistol.php |

Quoted:
Range 37 is a nice place within a little bit of a drive Range 37 is a long way to go for just pistols, and at $25 its over priced. You can try the Durham Wildlife club, and there is the Wake County range in Holly Springs which is indoors, and eagle1 in North Raleigh. |

R37 is not just pistols either? Not sure where you're getting that from. They have lanes out to 100yds. $25 is an all day price as well. Get there early and stay late. |

Thanks for all the feedback fellas.
After checking some ranges out on Saturday, I have decided that I miss South Carolina, ha. I took for granted all the public/open ranges down there. Every place has a waiting list of some variety to join or class requirements. No complaints but just a little more cumbersome than I'm used to. I will say, shotgunning is a lot more accessible around here when it comes to range time. So I might just take that up a little more earnestly and, being as I'm on temporary assignment in NC, just enjoy that and wait for the open outdoor ranges until I move again. Maybe I'll just put a giant bur in the the backyard and open my own members only club though, ha. Thanks again. |
